The ACC took Louisville because they were the best complete package out there by far.   They were already more profitable then FSU was even while still in the AAC.   Now in the ACC that will only grow and Louisville will become their conference leader along with FSU.  They are one of the few schools that actually made money during basketball season when they are selling out their 20,000 seat arena every game.   Their football games now are always packed, and their TV ratings have been good.

Either way everyone including USF should just drop the idea of joining the ACC and put all their eggs in the Big XII basket.    FSU and Miami will never allow it.  NEVER.

Louisville has surpassed Kentucky in football and is on par in basketball.

Yes to the first statement, no to the second.

Huh? your own data says otherwise. I added the profit column. It's equal to  revenue - expenses + subsidy

RANK    SCHOOL    TOTAL REVENUE    TOTAL EXPENSES    TOTAL SUBSIDY    % SUBSIDY profit

18    Louisville    $96,193,330     $92,383,221     $10,914,122     11.35        $14,724,231

24    Florida State    $91,382,441     $84,772,759     $7,859,734     8.6        $14,469,416

Kentucky finished at 18, Louisville at 20.  I'd call that "on par"

One could argue either side.

Not to get too far off track, but you have to consider the entire resume. 2140 Wins, 8 NCs, 16 Final Fours.

UL isn't far behind, but they're not on par. They like to think so, as evidenced by this Gem on I-64 near Frankfort heading out of Lexington towards Louisville:

Classic inferiority complex.

Well,if you want to go by history, then Kentucky football is better than Louisville's.  Kentucky has the lead 14-12 all time.

The statement was that Louisville was already more profitable. Louisville is what, $250,000 ahead and takes in $3,000,000 more from the students?

Louisville athletics are doing a fantastic job. They earned every bit of their entrance into the ACC. They can hold their own with anyone in the conference on the basketball court and their football team is in the upper tier. Their other athletics are solid across the board with their baseball team making huge strides recently. They are not more profitable than FSU already.
