Certainly the offense has been getting the most attention recently but looking at the defense here are my observations.

1. DBs cannot play man to man. When we shift to zone coverage teams start to run the ball down our throat.

2. The left side of the defensive side (looking straight from the QB perspective) is the strongest side. Run stoppage on the interior and exterior has been decent. The right side has been terrible.

3. The defense cannot tackle in open field. Constant problem since the first game. Tackling does not take place at practice on a consistent basis due to concern for injuries.

4. There has not been any exotic or hidden blitzes called. Indeed, blitzing has not been much of a game plan as it puts the already weaken DBs at risk.

For this week: we should go after the QB as much as possible (1/3). The zone support does not work anyway so what the hell, put pressure on their offensive line. I would rather get beat going after the QB than getting beat playing soft.

I agree with all your points especially the last one. I would much rather attack & apply pressure  trying to make a play than sit  back and get pummeled.
I do believe that one of the challenges they have is so many injuries on defense especially Defensive backfield that they’re having to play young players who are  just not physical enough to make those tackles.

You are absolutely correct about the young players. Hopefully after the bye week we will get two of the injured DBs back. Once in the red zone hopefully the defenders will tighten up coverage and make it somewhat more challenging. But yes, let’s put pressure on the QB and go down swinging.

Also would seem to make sense that the more pressure you put on a quarterback the less time he’ll have to find a receiver in the less time a defense of back has to cover. Pressure is always the answer to protect  poor pass coverage

Ugh! I did not see that. Their QB does like to move out of the pocket to pass so that probably helps.

Anyone who thinks transfers don't help can take a look at SMU. Jeff Scott said they've signed 85(not sure if he was being facetious) in the last 4 years.

Yeah to fix our issues on the dline and secondary we need transfers that are ready to contribute now, not true freshman who will be ready to contribute in 2 years
