Tocobaga Indians
Where They Were Located
The Tocobaga Indians were located in the Tampa Bay area.
Lifestyle
They killed fish, shellfish, manatees, deer, rabbits, armadillo, squirrels, and corn. They also ate a variety of berries, nuts, and fruit. They drank red ale.
What Happened to Them?
Around 1528, Panfilo de Narvaez arrived in the Tocobaga territory. His men brought disease and war and eventually the Tocobaga Indians became extinct.

Culture
Their houses were round and built poles holding up a roof of palm thatches. They built mounds, a large pile of earth, shells, and stones. The chief's house and the tribe's temple were each built on a mound. They also built burial mounds outside the main village areas as a place for burying the dead.
Weapons
They used a tool called the adz for digging. The adz was made of a shell or pointed stone tied to the end of a curved branch. For hunting they used a spear called the atlatl.

I’m just warmed to know the Tocobagas allegedly knew nothing of STDs or war.

The first part is definitely ********.

Syphilis, it seems, developed in the New World from yaws, perhaps 1,600 years ago, and was waiting for Columbus and his crew.

You people should all brush up on the Columbian Exchange! Europeans had exciting, new diseases, but they definitely didn't have the monopoly on it.

Next thing you know, you're all going to be saying the Canadians invaded America.

This needs to be a big time student event on campus. It definitely needs to be recorded so television can play it when we are winning a crazy amount of games next year. 😋

sounds like a new tradition

do any other schools already do this?

For the record my comment was sort of tongue in cheek just to mock the theory put forward in the information provided.

Yeah, I went back and read the original after posting. You should still read Crosby’s Colombian Exchange, though.
