TAMPA, MARCH 25, 2018 – Senior outfielder Duke Stunkel Jr. (Palm Beach Gardens, Fla.) delivered the big hit with a walk-off single in the ninth to give the USF baseball team a 3-2 win and a 2-1 series win against UConn to open league play.

It was a pitching duel early, as the game was scoreless through 6.0 innings. The Bulls (18-7, 2-1 The American) threatened in the bottom half of the sixth, loading the bags, but were unable to drive in any runs.

The Huskies (11-9, 1-2 The American) also loaded the bases in the top of the seventh, but with no outs. A hard grounder to third was snagged by a diving David Villar (Pembroke Pines, Fla.), who threw home to prevent a run from scoring. But the throw was just off the mark, forcing Tyler Dietrich (Naples, Fla.) to come off the plate. UConn hit into a double play with the bases loaded in the next at-bat, but a second run scored, making it 2-0.

Rest of story

Nice win.  Just keep winning series.  Pitching seems to be coming around

Team showed nice resilience this weekend. Both wins were comeback wins and they made a close game in what looked like a blowout in game one. Nice to see this team never gives up.

Great start by Sullivan. If he can be a solid Sunday starter, we will be really tough to beat in any series.

Great game today.  I thought the ump missed the call at the plate on UConn's first run.  Appeared Dietrich stayed on the plate long enough before his momentum took him off the plate.  Genord's Homer was an absolute bomb.  Great win today and a great series win.  Need to beat Stetson on Tuesday and take 2 out of 3 from Tulane at home next weekend.

Go Bulls!

Gotta love a team that grinds out a series win, especially when the ace/ struggles. Genord is a beast, a must watch batter right now.

2/3 is the name of the game. There is absolutely zero chance ECU actually goes 23-1 in conference per Nolan's model, but they look to be **** good. Same goes for Wichita State (who looks to be as good an addition to the conference as most though they'd be). Just keep grinding out series wins. If we were to actually go 16-8 or so in conference and get a #3-#4 seed, make a little noise in the conference tourney, we'll grab an at-large bid. The AAC is a very solid baseball conference at the top. 5 teams in the top 50 RPI is worth bragging a little about. The bottom is pretty bad, but I'll wager Houston doesn't finish last.

We've talked about getting back to being the toughest, most violent people out there. Let's be the best version of ourselves and really get back to the culture of how we (USF) used to step across the line and play anybody. Let's hold on to the culture of when they were tough … and they (opponents) knew it was going to be long damn day for themselves.
