USF was not allowed to go to a bowl because of this. http://www.sptimes.com/2003/11/30/Sports/Leavitt_holding_out_f.shtml

It's not the exact same situation. Ours was blatantly obvious where theirs was trickier, should have been caught but wasn't until too late. slowdown Posted December 22, 2017 Group: Member Topic Count: 5 Content Count: 993 Reputation: 121 Days Won: 0 Joined: 06/05/2007 Share Posted December 22, 2017 while it is the same situation, i think there are 11 more bowl games now than 2003. being as they just straight up let 5-7 teams play in bowl games now, does it really matter that team didn't have xx number of scholarships... It wasn’t blatantly obvious to AD Lee Roy Selmon when he signed the game with Nichols State who was only 3 scholarships short of being eligible. The only difference I see is the Tampa media was reporting on it for months prior to the bowls so no one could have “missed it” when the Bowls were selecting teams. After taking time to actually read the 2003 article, it is a lot closer to the same situation than I first thought Love CJL saying in the article that we'd bring 30K fans if invited .... God bless him.

We were royally screwed out of a bowl game, after going 9-2 the year before and that was widely known. The BCS standings only went to 15 back then. We would have been in their top 25, if they had ranked that many. "We're hoping that by some miracle we can get into a bowl game," Leavitt said. "If they can petition to get us out last year then why can't they petition to get us in this year?" Edited December 22, 2017 by Mama_Bull
