They're pretty meaningful to the players and fans (outside of SMU, that is...) I agree 100%, should have clarified my answer more. Since the poster I was responding to obliviously did consider them meaningless, I should have said "Honestly, though, if you already think these bowls are meaningless, can they really be any MORE meaningless" .... It just puts more pressure on the coaches and the staffs. It just makes the Bowls that much more meaningless. Which matters more.....recruiting or winning the Bowl game? can you imagine if the NFL had the draft during the playoffs? They need to let the coaches coach during the season. Limit access to hiring coaches from other schools until AFTER the national championship game. Give everyone 4 weeks to figure out their coaching situation, hire their staffs, then another month to signing day. College football functioned just fine for a century without early enrollees. Recruiting is an all year, multi year thing. It isn't like the guys that signed just met with their recruiters/head coaches that week. Unless it is a playoff game, recruiting matters much more than a bowl game. As others have stated, this is a win for USF and the G5 schools. Former USF coaches have hoped for an early signing period. Don't remember which staff now but know I've had that conversation. Edited December 26, 2017 by Bourbon Bull
