WAGR #2 Maverick McNealy earned 12.5 points for his 44th place finish at the John Deere Classic.

As a result, Niemann is now only 15.44 points ahead of him.

With McNealy playing at The OPEN Championship this week, he might very well pick up enough points to surpass Niemann.

McNealy will lose ranking points earned in 2015 week 31(15.75) and in week  33 ( 16.66), leading up to the US Amateur in week 34.

Niemann has no more points to lose from 2015 before week #34.

So, even if Mcnealy becomes #1 again next week, Niemann will most likely pull ahead of him before the US Amateur.

Too bad Niemann didn't play in the US Junior Amateur, where he most likely would have secured enough points to stay ahead of McNealy in next week's rankings.

How they both do at the the US Amateur may decide who is #1 WAGR and wins the Mark McCormack Medal.
