He also said something along the lines of "give them a couple plays" right before the Gatorade remark. No Coach is going to tell their offense not to score but it seemed last year was either a 3 and out or a quick score almost every drive, maybe he wants to turn some of those 3 and ours to more sustained drives.

I'll take the potential explosiveness of the 3 play drive due to tempo over a 6 and out instead of a 3 and out and slowing down.  He just needs to get us a top 50 defense with the current offense.  There's no need for him to try to reinvent the wheel with what we do on offense....

Now long term we may have to after we lose Flowers, Mack, Johnson etc to graduation after next season but even then he should be pretty hands off about the offense this season.  It more than proved itself.

I don't think the tempo thing was a joke. From the context of the presser it sounds like he believes there are so many athletes on O now, that the way you play O is part of D. You need to allow your guys go catch their breath on D and get hydrated.

Not really sure what this means for our O. Hopefully he keeps the uptempo O

Half serious is a good word for it.   He seemed half cocked about it then the crowd erupted and he backed down quite a bit.

We had either 10 or 12 1-play drives this year, best in the country, IIRC

We need to hang on to that explosiveness!

I took it as a joke considering he laughed as he said it.

Just bring us a defense that can get the ball back in our hands on O and we can score even more.

Agree with this.

It would be a shame if he came in here and backed our offense down.

I really hope Charlie learned like Willie about adjusting your system to work with what you've got.

The home run plays wont go away.  Im thinking we stay no huddle but maybe take an extra 5-10 seconds to allow time to read the defense.

One things that needs to be noted is that our offense is now out there on film.  A solid portion.   Pretty much all of it.  That jet sweep got shut down the last couple games.   Defenses are now adjusting.   It is time to adjust to the adjustments.

Im willing to give this a chance.  We are athletic enough to beat teams head up offensively anywah

Yup, they did adjust and then we had more big plays up the middle because they were so focused on holding the edge against the jet sweep.  Defenses cheating on one play opens up another in our style of offense. We also had success with the play action off of that motion due to defenses adjusting to it.  If called correctly this offense punishes defenses for not staying home and selling out to stop plays (the pump and deep shot off the WR screen, the play action pop to TE's up the seam, the read option, etc) This offense is chess, not checkers.

Sure he joked about gatorade...when he was talking about how O's are going to score now with the athlete's and QBs that can run and throw...that was the context surrounding the D conversation. He did gaffe on the gatorade and laughed about that.

We will see what happens.
