Not by top 8 then? Western Michigan still wouldn't have made it (with current standings). As long as it's based on committee and people's opinions, it'll always be flawed unfortunately.

Of course it will always be flawed, but it's a major improvement over a 4 team (BCS 2.0).

 

All the P5 schools get a chance at the playoff, and then 2 spots for the odd ones (great teams that didn't win their own conference).
