And yes Brad, only one person would have heard the most powerful man comment and that would be Joel, I still to this day can not picture JL saying that, but if it were true it's disappointing.

According to a friend of Joel's that I trust and believe, Joel stated that it was a made up claim.  That Leavitt never said it.  Again, does this give anyone pause?  Concern?  The investigation was done on second and third hand commentary.  Erskin was 100% believed.  Whatever he spun, USF soaked it up.   The "most powerful" line was a hoax.  What else was?

I was kind of hesitant to lay blame, and ultimately it was on USF.  But it's probably even money it was someone in the attorney's office that did the redaction.  Not that it really matters, because it was clearly an accidental misunderstanding of techology.

We can all forgive the document preparer, not the reporter that exposed those players' names.

Brett did and USF took no action, other than (I guess) to ask FanHouse, or whatever, to take it down.  Wouldn't that make you question the issue?  They felt they had no further action necesary when the reporter exposed all their witnesses.

Not sure what you mean, really.  Since USF actually published it there probably was no legal recourse for USF against BMM or FanHouse or whoever he was working for at the time.  Especially since darn near anyone could download it from USF's website and get the same info.

Doesn't mean a reporter or website should report it just because they can, however.

Is that what you meant?

The reality is that he probably said something because he was angry or irritated, but not those exact words.  The truth almost always lies somewhere in between.

The reality is you are wrong on this one DB.  As stated above, while this was used to destroy JL, it was never said.

Agreed.  We have plenty of other reasons to hold a grudge against the same reporter anyway.

With all due respect, you weren't there.  If it was Jim and Joel present, only Jim and Joel know.  You are making an assumption.

You're right.  There was little they could do legally.

I guess, if nothing else it shows us the type of person that was relied on in print, internet and radio media to tell the public the story.  The same guy that was wrong on so many other stories about racism, cheating and academic issues with USF Football.  We should have known his interactions with the players wasn't pure.  USF got slapped in the face with his lack of ethics.  The same deficit that led him to manufacture the Leavitt nonsense.

He tried over and over to break "the story".  Most attempts failed miserably, and finally he got "lucky" and turned it into a job at ESPN.

Life isn't always fair.

I'm saying a guy that knows Joel said Joel told him this never happened.  I believe the guy, because when this was all coming out, he was 100% a Joel guy.  He didn't think any of this could have been untrue.  Now, years later, he admits this never happened - Joel told him.  I believe him.

But read "The System" if you haven't.  Explores the bad and good, the lows and the highs of college football by drilling into some specific scenarios.  You can easily see how some of this stuff happens.

We've talked about getting back to being the toughest, most violent people out there. Let's be the best version of ourselves and really get back to the culture of how we (USF) used to step across the line and play anybody. Let's hold on to the culture of when they were tough … and they (opponents) knew it was going to be long damn day for themselves.
