Re-watched the Maryland game.   Not fun, but my perspective is that this offensive line is not giving him what he got last year.   What are you thoughts on his productivity this year?

1- Part of it is the tackles

2- part of it is the read option is different than what Mack was used to last season and he's still adjusting, and

3- part of it is that QF's read on it has been a hair slow.

Mack is getting the ball closer to the line than he did last year and a little slower than he did last year.  If QF reads it better and keeps it when he is supposed to then the  D will stop crashing down and assuming mack has the ball.

Yeah, the tackles were just ridiculous.   On the first interception of Bench the run back one of our WR's did not really try to tackle the guy.  It was pathetic.

Great comments Sanjay

Is Mack being used wrong or is he over rates? Since he is no longer our secret weapon should we employ him in a different way? Should we try to bruise them with Tice early and let Mack play situational downs? Late game? Do we have any strategy for getting ourselves into a winning position against a non-PPP warner team?

We don't block well and most of our plays are short yardage.  We don't run deep passes often, so the opponent can afford to stack the box with 7 and counter the run all day.  Without the bigs to push forward and without the solid blocking fundamentals, Mack can't move.

I also agree with the above statement that Mack is getting the ball closer to the line this year.  Plays need to develop faster and this team needs to go for more mid-to-big yardage plays.

We don't run deep passes often because we can't give the qb time for the play to develop. Until we find a way to hit some quick slants to stop the lb's from standing in the box it won't get any better.

The dt's can crash because the lb's can cover the outside.

We're seriously going to need those 10-yd slants to the middle, I agree. Cincy carved up the Memphis D with those plays, their CBs play soft zones like we did with Bres.

He got 12 carries for 71 yards! He averaged 5.9 YPC. That's fantastic. He didn't touch the ball nearly enough. For us to have had 50 rushes and Mack to only have 12 of those 50 is inexcusable.

The only thing wrong is he's not touching the ball enough. If we are going to be basically a run team 80% of the time, Marlon Mack needs to have 25 carries per game. The ball needs to be in our best player's hands as much as possible. Another thing to scratch your head with on Taggart.
