When Flowers scrambled and thru the td, didn't he put the ball on the ground? And shouldn't the play been blown dead at that point?

I thought the same thing when I saw it live. Upon seeing the highlight again and watching it as best I could, I could not definitively say that the ball touched the ground. It was definitely close, but I think he might have avoided contact with the ground. I'm just relieved that the call wasn't challenged/reversed, as it created a confidence and momentum boost that led to the blowout victory.

It was already mentioned in another thread.  The ball touching the ground does not make the runner down.

Also, all scoring plays are reviewed by the review official.

Well, there you go. That would explain why it was a non-issue. Although, I do think that the coaching staff for FAMU wasn't clear on the rule either, as that most likely was the reason they called the timeout and delayed everything following the touchdown pass.

Thanks. I assumed it was covered, but couldn't find it.

Surprised that a runner can put the ball on the ground to maintain his balance.

Ball being on the ground is not an issue. Rulewise.

Only thing that can cause you to be down once you have control of the ball is a body part other then your hand or foot touching the ground.

Flowers used his hand and the ball but no other part of his body made contact. Flowers came close to touching with his knee but caught himself. Play was a thing of beauty.

Great play. We need like 30 more of them this season
