Beating FSU and losing conference games won't do anything for us. We'll get a week of fame and a temporary boost in attendance. Those fans will leave just like they did in the past.

Winning the AAC & playing in a big bowl game will do a lot more.

We also won't get much bump in recruiting beating FSU and finishing in third in conference play. We need more sustained success and that starts with a conference championship and into a nice bowl game...much more exposure than one weekend beating FSU.

Cwt could get us top 25 classes with a conference championship a few of those and we would be set for awhile.

The assumption does not have to be "beat FSU and lose all the rest".

That's not the question.  If we beat FSU, it would indicate we might be "for real" and likely lead to more wins up to and including the champ game.

All else aside.  No one would remember the AAC champ three years from now, they'd remember beating FSU, just like all remember that game in 2009 and Auburn, Notre Dame, Kansas, WVU (06 & 07) etc.  That is talk at cocktail parties, not winning a G5 crown.

Some would feel redeemed, but the days of a conference champ meaning anything real has mostly been extinguished now that we're in the small time.

In your question, winning the championship game is not an option if we beat FSU .... or has the conversation veered a bit off the poll topic?

If this were a few years ago and we were still in the old Big East, I'd say win the conference and go to a BCS bowl game. Now that we're in the craptastic AAC, I say beating FSU will get us more national exposure than winning a conference nobody cares about.

Trip (yes, I failed to quote),

It's simple...you have a choice of one or the other.  That's it.

What some are inferring, a win against FSU means you lose everything else, is not the question.

Got that .... but by choosing FSU in the poll, it means there is zero chance of winning the conference and that's why I was a little confused by your answer up there.

FSU

winning this conference is meaningless and without a real reward

What I meant to say is you could beat FSU and make the champ game....it's not a question of beating FSU and sputtering out with 10 straight losses.

There is only one correct answer ever with this type of question. Win the Conference Championship should be our primary goal every year. Beating FSU would be great but the Championship is the prize.
