IF you fire Strong before the bowl game, who coaches the bowl game? This is a clean house situation. Let this staff coach the bowl game and then clean house (except for King).
The personnel decisions is what really put me over the top. I still can’t get it through my head that they decided to bench Mazzi for Jaymon Thomas against Houston because he’s a few inches taller. Mazzi is the best CB we have had since Kayvon and he might actually be better. Jaymon has always struggled covering at Safety and lost his job to a couple underclassmen.
If you can’t figure out how to manage the clock, or hire an OC or ST coordinator, you better be **** good on your side of the ball. These blatant personnel mistakes should be the final straw.
This. I don’t even think Strong was a bad hire at the time. I actually thought there was a chance that he was a slight upgrade over CWT. With that being said, this is clearly not the case and we need to cut bait immediately
Who cares what the rest of the college football world thinks? I’m sure those out in Big 12 country would understand.
Its not scaring off any legitimate coaching prospects. If they become hesistant by us firing a HC, then I don’t want them. We already have a coach with that weak minded mentality.
Don’t even look at it like. He’s not going to see that extra 1.5.
CCS leverage will be to renegotiate his contract down in order to keep the job. Don’t fall for it Mike Kelly.
Don’t just settle for Gilbert. Gilbert isn’t the one calling (or failing to call) time outs & punting on 4th and 1 or choosing to kneel etc etc.
Sterlin sucks, but the Charlie Strong era needs to end at 12:01
His excuse bucket is as full as I’ve seen in a 24 month span -
1. No Leaders
2. Too young/small
3. Not enough depth (followed by a 0 target performance for St. Felix)
4. Uniforms (lol)
5. University commitment/Resources
6. Players ability to execute
7. Coaches not having them ready to play
8. Players not practicing hard enough
Edit - forgot another great one
9. Offense scoring too fast
Really just have to go execute. We have the talent, just need to go out and compete and execute. They are a good team, but we are a good team. If we execute (and wear boring jerseys), we will have a chance.
Most underrated part of QF’s game was his ability to focus with all of the different uniform combinations being thrown on him. There were like 5 different uniforms in that video and he executed in all of them. Truly a generational player.
It would absolutely be an upgrade financially for Yost. Here’s the thing, would Charlie let him run his offense? There will be other programs hiring OC’s. The last thing a guy like Yost is going to do is come into a program and be handcuffed
If we are comparing Gilbert’s offense to retailers, his offense is 100% Aldi’s. Off brand version of the Veer & Shoot. Only works 10% of the time if you’re lucky
When you have a dual threat QB, you don’t line up and try and run power when you get in the red zone. Spread it out and make defenders make decisions in space. If option 1 or 2 isn’t there, take off.
How Sterlin didn’t figure this out is beyond me
Side note - where was the option that we ran against Temple last year? You choose to run it with Blake Barnett but not QF?? That play would’ve been perfect against Houston last year instead of pounding it at a top 10 NFL pick
We need to let King coach QBs again as well. Think about this for a second....you have a former NFL coach on staff and you make him coaching RBs so that STERLIN GILBERT (who?) can coach the QBs.
