  1. These products limit the blow to the head, but only up to a certain force. Generally when teams use these, teams aren’t going 100%. At 50-75% practices, these can help limit the blows from accidental helmet to helmet contact. In a game situation however, the benefit of these products is zero to none
  2. These are simply padded covers that go over the helmet. Not 100% sure of what brand USF uses, but most use Guardian Caps.
  3. Sure it does. Corners aren’t supposed to be the best tacklers on your team. Safeties however need to be.
  4. I’ve said this multiple times here, Sanders & Roberts are natural corners. Sure they might have played some safety in HS, but their skill sets translate to CB’s at this level. So many people have written them off (esp. Roberts) because of their missed tackles last year. I understand the aggravation, but once you realize they were playing out of position, the evaluation of the player changes somewhat. These are pure cover guys that were asked to play in the box due to lack of depth across the board.
  5. I think you’d see a committee approach if it got to that point, primarily between Seriki & Dave Small.
  6. For this game alone, I’ll go with Macon. Physical LB that can get downhill and give us the pretense of a true MLB. Outside of what Macon can provide from a production standpoint, I’m really intrigued with how CCS will use the depth at LB. For the first time in his tenure here, we have the depth to show a more traditional 3-4 look on early downs. Here’s an idea of what this COULD look like - DE Livingstone NT Kegler DE Yates OLB Reaves LB Macon LB Sawtelle OLB Boyles We most certainly could not have run this the last year or two with McGee in that lineup. Interested to see how CCS uses this newly acquired depth
  7. The writing was on the wall here with the aggressive pursuit of two QB’s in the 2020 class and bringing in an entire group of PWO’s. Kuddos to him for embracing this change.
  8. I’ll go on record saying I’m a huge fan of moving Zion to DB. Even going back to his HS days, Zion was never a polished route runner. He won with his size and athletic ability. That lends itself great to the defensive side of the ball where you can learn your assignments relatively quickly and let that athletic ability play up.
  9. This. I expect Jim Leonhard to attack the unknown of KB’s offense with a lot of pressure. Even more important than BB reading the coverage, can our OL pick up the pressures? Nothing disrupts a beautifully designed play like a free rusher. There’s a lot of talk about the weight/strength gains, but we have struggled in picking up stunts/blitzes in the past. Hopefully Darveau has these guys prepared
  10. If you’re wondering how we can win this game, go look at the Purdue Wisconsin (Coan was QB). Taylor ran for 300+ and Purdue still had a chance to win. I’m not saying giving up 300 to JT is a recipe for winning, but I think this is the closest thing we have to replicate what we should be. Let’s hope we don’t fumble a ball through the end zone.
  11. I think this is the best way to approach it. I don’t think it’s realistic to expect a 180 degree change for any unit on any team across the country. Only so much can change in 12 months. With that being said, I think it’s realistic to expect us to be closer to the 2017 team defensively (50th-ish ranked) with significant improvements offensively by seasons end. This should result in a much improved team....as long as ST’s don’t trend toward 2017 levels
  12. I’d take a deep breath here. 1. The objective for Vincent Davis wasn’t to tackle Ford. The objective is to gain leverage and drive him backwards (a miserable result in that clip). 2. That drill for skill players has almost zero application to live game situations. 3. Its a quick clip of a single rep. Davis could’ve crushed Ford and others in the previous 25 reps, but we have no clue because we only have access to that one clip.
  13. Well, that’s your answer. For one, we won’t have a safety playing linebacker paired with a corner (Roberts) playing safety. Davis is better than Hoggins in run support, and LaPointe is better than Jaymon in that aspect as well. Macon has his decencies, but stuffing the run and tackling isn’t one of them. Studstill is similar in that he’s a true box safety. When asked to play CF, that’s where he gets exposed. But on the topic of tackling, Studstill > Roberts by a mile. TL;DR Studstill > Roberts Macon > McGee LaPointe > Jaymon Reaves not at LB Sawtelle back I don’t believe we will be a better defensive team simply because of a 30 sec clip from BJM, but the personnel upgrades paint a clearer picture as to why the staff is excited for this year.
  14. Not necessarily. Reaves is probably a better pro prospect than Ford, but I have a hard time not including Ford because of how valuable he was last year.
  15. It’s all going to come down to the OL. If they can even be average, we will score a lot of points
  16. @John Lewis sent you a pm on a Boundless Bulls Pack note. Appreciate your help!
  17. And how’d that work out for them? Sure they made it, but they got absolutely embarrassed and did nothing to build on it. I’m sure their fan base wiped that from their memory just like their loss to us in BBall this year
  18. Juco stats are about as reliable as stats from your local 10u baseball game.
  19. Yeah their RB/TE combo could cause a lot of trouble. I know a lot of people point to them having to replace a QB, but I’m of the opinion Coan will be an upgrade over Hornibrook. With that said, priority 1 through infinity has to be loading up against the run. Stack the box and force Coan to beat you.
  20. I’ll never understand why we ran nickel most of that game. There were multiple times when FSU would run out a 1 WR set, and we were still in a sub package with 5 DBs. The inability to adjust on defense that game (and entire year really) was pop warner bad.
  21. The main issue we had upfront last year was lack of ability to identify & pick up stunts, blitzes, or really any type of pre-snap movement. If you’re the optimistic kind, take note that a change at OL coach could help prevent some of these issues. Couple that with the progression of some young returning starters and there’s reason to believe this unit can improve. If you tend to sway more on the pessimistic side, you can point to the fact that there won’t be a coach on the field to help these guys figure out stunts/blitz pick ups pre snap, and eventually these guys have to figure it out for themselves. Experience usually helps with this, but there are guys that just struggle to understand what the defense is trying to do. It happens fast, and it’s an undervalued part of being a great OL unit. Our interior group looks pretty solid. Those young guys should take a step forward, and all have the physical talent to compete. I’m not sure that we are consistent enough at OT (despite Norman’s NFL interest). I’m not overly optimistic about the Atterbury experiment at LT, and the last thing I want to see is Wilcox having to stay in and block/chip. I’m confident KB can hide some physical deficiencies here, but mental breakdowns causing players to run free will blow up even the best play call before it ever has a chance.
  22. Great to hear. Always hoped Auggie would remain within the program after his playing days
