  1. Go take a look at the film for yourself. I can only attach one photo, but here’s a snapshot of what you’ll find -
  2. Our OL isn’t ideal, but he’s not doing himself any favors either. He consistently missed hot reads, didn’t go through his progressions quickly, and consistently bounced out of the pocket into a free rusher. BB is the guy for GT. You give him 4 quarters to figure it out. If improvements aren’t shown, give McCloud the ball for SC State
  3. We are exactly one (1) game into the KB era. This IS the beginning. You’re going to eat crow on this one.
  4. At least he didn’t blame it on the uniforms
  5. Don’t be silly, Charlie just needs a few more things to be successful - 1. Fancy IPF 2. Huge donors 3. Better players than the opponent 4. Boring uniforms If we can get him these things, we will dominate. Unless we play Kansas....or anyone else in the Big 12. Or UCF. Other than that we are good!
  6. I’m not so confident this can be fixed. Not because Blake doesn’t have the mental capacity or that this is simply a habit, but because reading a defense is the hardest thing for a QB to do. This is what separates good QBs from great QBs. This is why 7 on 7’s can be misleading. Reading a defense when the bullets are flying is a totally different animal. You either have it or you don’t. Could he potentially improve from terrible to simply poor in this aspect? Maybe. But that’s about the extent of improvement I would expect from coaching.
  7. I think you hit the nail on the head here. There’s a sense of panic in his game that shows in every aspect. Footwork (or lack thereof) in the pocket, willingness to bounce out of the pocket immediately, lack of touch on throws, and worst of all, his inability to get beyond the first read. If you look back on a few of his picks from 2018, you’ll see that he absolutely locks on his #1 read and struggles to identify the defense post snap. Ex. 1 - week 1, GT Simple curl flat combination and he throws the ball directly to the safety that rolled down pre snap. Nothing exotic about the way the defense played this, he just locked on and threw it to the defender. Ex. 2 Temple Fake screen/Wheel combination. Blake never identifies that corner carries with the wheel route. Pumps the screen and throws the wheel immediately. Corner makes a great play on the ball to pick it off. I expect to see a heavy dose of the run & screen game this week to take some pressure off BB. I also wouldn’t be surprised to see KB utilize some rub/pick concepts to allow BB to get to a read and get the ball out early.
  8. And 3, he makes the correct read. Which is was not the case very often on Friday night
  9. More important than specific names, we need to eliminate retreads moving forward. There’s a reason why fired coaches are available. We watched Charlie lose to Kansas at Texas, while equipped with the fancy IPF, huge donors, and everything else that he says he needs here. By all accounts Charlie is a great guy. But there’s a reason Texas fired him and we are seeing it firsthand. Learn from this mistake and don’t repeat it
  10. Before I became a student at USF, I was a diehard Cane fan. The first/last game I attended live as a Miami fan was actually Miami vs USF. This is actually how I became familiar with USF. Charlie is Randy Shannon 2.0. The similarities are striking. I can go on and on, but I assume that’s unnecessary given the nature of this thread. Fire charlie before we waste another season pissing away fans.
  11. He’s gotta go. 2 deep safeties against Wisconsin the entire game? We have Randy Shannon as our head coach
  12. Macon obviously now has the most pressure on him. While Wisconsin doesn’t throw a ton, Sails can be a big help in allowing us to commit an extra DB to the box. I still think Studstill plays a large role in this game as the box safety. We will need our safeties to tackle well to keep those 7-8 yards runs from turning into explosive plays. I think we will find ourselves holding our breath and saying “thank god he made that tackle” quite often.
  13. Huge! Any word on Latrell Williams, the WR from Tennessee?
  14. 100%. He also mentioned need safeties to come up and help in run support. This actually makes a lot of sense
  15. Sure, Boyles may have only “started” 2 games last year, but the kid played meaningful minutes in almost every game in 2018. Let’s not act like he has no game experience.
  16. Replacing Sawtelle’s leadership on the field will be no easy task. Make no mistake by that. I do think there are some veterans at other positions that can help pick up some of that slack. Most notably Reaves, Livingstone and Hampton. I also get the sense that Sails has brought an energy to this team that has been missing. While his skill set is pretty darn good, the energy he brings to the defense might be the most valuable aspect of his game.
  17. I very rarely get excited about true freshman, but I think most recruiting sites (and teams for that matter) missed on Bellamy. The kid can flat out play, and will likely pair with Boyles as our future LBs. I’m not saying I’d feel great about him playing week 1 against Wisconsin, but he’s a very solid back up and could contribute Boyles like production as a first year guy. Starting level talent - Boyles, Macon Solid depth - Grier, Bellamy, Mims, Gray Everyone else is either a special teamer or developmental player at this point
  18. I think this would be a bigger issue against a team that uses a lot of pre snap motion and/or non-traditional sets. Against Wisconsin, I’m much more worried about guys being up to the task physically than mentally.
  19. Essentially means neither guy is entrenched as the starter. You could see either guy start/play a majority of the snaps
  20. This is probably the best representation of the type of game we will see. JT runs for 300+ and Purdue has every chance in the world to win this game -
  21. Looks like Danny Davis (WR) might be a game time decision for Wisc. He led the team in receptions & receiving TD’s last season.
  22. Of course we need to try and limit the run game, but the point in providing those stats is to show that even in games where JT runs for 150+, Wisconsin isn’t guaranteed to win. That was mostly for those that simply say, “JT will run all over us and we will get crushed”. The key difference in the games they won verse lost is how they were able to complement the run game. We can survive a 150-200 yard performance by Jt. We can’t survive a 150-200 yard performance with Coan also finding success on 3rd down.
  23. Wisconsin offense vs USF defense Jonathan Taylor ran for 831 yards in Wisconsin’s last 4 games (207 ypg) and Wisc went 2-2, including an OT win against Purdue. He had 6 & 9.7 YPC respectively against Michigan and Penn State The key to beating Wisc isn’t stopping JT. Anyone who thinks we are going to “stop” JT is crazy. There isn’t a team in the country that can go into a game against Wisc and confidently say they are going to shutdown this guy. The key is to make sure that when they do pass, we don’t allow chunk plays and easy conversions on 3rd down. JT is going to get his, but we absolutely can NOT allow their pass game to get into any sort of rhythm. When you get Wisc in 3rd and 5 or longer, you absolutely have to make a stop. I think we will get after Coan and force him into a mistake or three. USF offense vs Wisconsin defense On the other side of the ball, we have to limit the pre snap penalties. I think we all expect some highs and lows with a Week 1 game in a new system. The key here will be limiting the false starts, illegal motions, etc that put you behind the chains. Pre snap penalties lead to short drives, which in turn leads to a tired defense. That’s a recipe for disaster against these guys. I expect KB to focus on the short pass game (motion to option routes, screens, etc) early in the game to establish a rhythm. We have enough talent to force missed tackles and find chunk plays without putting too much pressure on the OL. I truly think BB and co. will have a field day here. Special Teams This is where the game will be decided IMO. Wisconsin will have a new kicker, while USF seems sold on using a 2 kicker system (insert a wait, wut? emoji). I don’t expect Horne to be the KR, but there’s still plenty of talent here for this to be a game changer for us. My official prediction is 37-34 Bulls with Wisconsin missing a game tying FG at the buzzer. TL;DR Bulls win, go crazy folks
