  1. WVU, TCU, Kentucky (following the relationships on these) I think its Mississippi State, Iowa State and K State
  2. Personally I think we ought to replace it with Weird Al's Sports song. Great lyrics to it. Your sports team is vastly inferior That simple fact is plainly obvious to see We’re gonna kick your collective posterior Of course you realize we’re speaking figuratively Our stats are thoroughly impressive Our coach really has the Midas touch Our players are fast and strong and brave And your guys, eh, not so much In fact we’ve played teams across the nation And you’re the worst one we’ve come across Try to assimilate that information And it just might help you cope with your impending loss Oh, and if somehow we are still failing To affectively articulate the points at hand Allow us now to summarize them in a manner That your feeble brains can understand We’re great (we’re great) And you suck (you suck) We’re great (we’re great) And you suck (you suck) We’re great (we’re great) And you suck (you suck) You see there’s us (we’re great) And then there’s you (you suck) We’re really, really great (really great) In contrast, you really suck (really suck) Okay, full disclosure, we’re not that great But nevertheless, you suck Your sports team will soon suffer swift defeat That theory’s backed up by empirical evidence We’re gonna grind up your guys into burger meat Again, of course, we’re speaking in the figurative sense What’s the use of even going through the motions When you know that you’re gonna lose anyhow So why don’t you save us all some time And give up now (you suck!)
  3. Now that's confirmation .... Actually Buyouts are getting pretty high. Schools like Boise and USF who have proven they can beat P5 schools usually charge a high buyout just to try to prevent this type of thing from happening. I believe the buyout for the Florida State series is $600,000.
  4. From IRS pub 970: If you receive educational assistance benefits from your employer under an educational assistance program, you can exclude up to $5,250 of those benefits each year. This means your employer should not include those benefits with your wages, tips, and other compensation shown in box 1 of your Form W-2. This also means that you do not have to include the benefits on your income tax return. You cannot use any of the tax-free education expenses paid for by your employer as the basis for any other deduction or credit, including the American opportunity credit and lifetime learning credit. This means that the first $5,250 in educational expenses for college athletes can not be used as a tax deduction. Educational assistance program. To qualify as an educational assistance program, the plan must be written and must meet certain other requirements. Your employer can tell you whether there is a qualified program where you work. Educational assistance benefits. Tax-free educational assistance benefits include payments for tuition, fees and similar expenses, books, supplies, and equipment. (These payments are subject to regular taxes). Education generally includes any form of instruction or training that improves or develops your capabilities. The payments do not have to be for work-related courses or courses that are part of a degree program. Educational assistance benefits do not include payments for the following items. Meals, lodging, or transportation. Tools or supplies (other than textbooks) that you can keep after completing the course of instruction. Courses involving sports, games, or hobbies unless they: Have a reasonable relationship to the business of your employer, or Are required as part of a degree program. Benefits over $5,250. If your employer pays more than $5,250 in educational assistance benefits for you during the year, you must generally pay tax on the amount over $5,250. Your employer should include in your wages (Form W-2, box 1) the amount that you must include in income. Working condition fringe benefit. However, if the benefits over $5,250 also qualify as a working condition fringe benefit, your employer does not have to include them in your wages. A working condition fringe benefit is a benefit which, had you paid for it, you could deduct as an employee business expense (these types of expenses must be directly related to the job, would probably include travel, equipment, etc). For more information on working condition fringe benefits, see Working Condition Benefits in chapter 2 of Publication 15-B, Employer's Tax Guide to Fringe Benefits.
  5. Actually the AAC is doing well in its first year. In the major sports, football won its BCS game against a P5 championship team, Rutgers won the WNIT SMU finished second in the NIT and Uconn has a shot at both the men's and women's NCAA titles (no worse than 2nd). I believe that this year has outperformed a number of the P5 schools. Hoping that Uconn pulls off the sweep this week.
  6. I am not concerned about using a 3-4 defense instead of a 4-3. I personally think we should have been using a 3-4 from the beginning of the program. It is much easier to recruit quality linebackers in Florida than it is to recruit quality linemen. With a 3-4 the defense against the run should be improved. The key is whether or not our current line can tie up the blockers so that the linebackers can run free. Finally, it is not necessary to have a really big guy in the center, what you need is someone who can tie up two blockers and not get pushed off the line. Being big helps but good lower body strength is just as important.
  7. I would questionhi ability to recruit at DSC he took what he could get, mostly walkons and hasn't yet recruited at SFA, only one season. However, to go from losing culture to NCAA tourney in one year indicates great X and O ability.
  8. Seeing that it is paperwork on an independent study class and two online classes, it might very well be an honest mistake. There is a difference between knowingly lying and making an honest mistake. For his sake, and ours, I hope this can resolved in a couple of weeks. USF had to pull the offer because state law requires a degree, but once he gets the degree USF could offer him again. USF can always refer to state law and being able to recognize the difference between a lie and a honest mistake.
  9. Did it occur to any of you that since Harlan is still employed by UCLA and does not take the USF job until April 7 that it might be a conflict of interest if he conducts the coaching search? This way the coaching search is conducted and Harlan only makes the decision based on recommendations given to him on April 7. Its going to be after the NCAA Tourney before USF names a new basketball coach.
  10. Selections are announced tomorrow at 7PM on ESPN.
  11. I agree if we fire the BB coach before hiring a new AD then the new AD will be stuck with that hire for a couple of years. Better to get the new AD and then let him/her decide on the BB coach. Nothing worse than being a new AD with a new head coach that you didn't hire but everyone will associate that coach with you.
  12. Probably aren't but they had fielding issues all game. Not just the errors but the fielders seemed like they didn't know the defensive play either.
  13. FOIA doesn't mandate disclosure until someone actually files a request, right? That's correct. Actually when it comes to employment positions FOIA does not apply until the position is filled. This is because employers might take action against employees who are applying for another position.
  14. The Senior Bowl issues a watch list of 400 potential invitees at the beginning of the season. Over the course of the year players are added or removed based upon their performance. At the end of the regular season the players are rated by the Senior Bowl committee and ranked from top to bottom by position. Once this is completed invitations are issued, usually in early January. Any invitations not accepted by the due date will be filled by either the next name on the list or by request of the coaching staffs (selected by the NFL) and/or NFL teams. I suspect that invitations that were not accepted by the due date are filled by requests of NFL teams. The E/W Shrine game probably plays a role as players who were not on the NFL radar or were rated lowly perform above the expectations of the scouts and the NFL would like a second look at those players.
  15. I've been meaning to join to join the Society for Procrastinators but never seem to get around to it.
  16. Here is a name for you: Todd Patulski. Deputy Athletic Director, Baylor. Responsibilities include all finance and administration duties, AAD at Northeastern University where he was responsible for all 19 sports programs. Experience has been involved in developing competitive programs and increased the annual budget from $22 million in 2004 to $73 million in 2013. This is the type of person we should be looking at.
  17. The thing I like the most about Wulff is that his offenses improved every year at WSU. I think this is a good indication that he is very good at player development. We will see as the season progresses if he really does improve the line. Of course, with the play we got last year that may not be all that hard to do.
  18. Not sure about Wulff on offense. At WSU he was 120, 120, 91 and 61.Good trend that took a while to get going, never got the defense going though. Of course he took over a team that had 12 people arrested in the 2 years proceeding his hire and a very low APR that took the school 4 years to overcome. He never did get to play with a full set of scholarships. I think at WSU his main task was to clean up the program. Apparently he replaced everybody associated with WSU football to clean up the program.
  19. I agree with you. They are talking early first round for Bortles, hard to see how returning for his senior year will improve on that. I also agree with your assessment of the QBs in this draft. I think it is interesting that the top QBs in the NFL: Brees, Rodgers, P. Manning, and Brady did not play for spread offenses in college. I think the only top QB that did is Foles, although I'm not certain of Arizona's offense and I'm not sure Foles is a top QB, one good year does not a QB make. When Rodgers was there California ran a West Coast offense the others were all in power run offenses.
  20. After watching the offense this past season Saban thought he was going to a comedy club.
  21. We can also come up with a lot of first sentence for acceptance speech as well. Anyone know how long this phase of the voting is?
  22. Wrong Idea. We tend to "dumb" done things. Taggart holds high expectations and expects people to get it, those that put in the effort are his players and those who can't or won't aren't his players. The only way this team improves is with higher expectations.
  23. The Good - The defense played well again tonight. Held Memphis to 244 total yards and only one sustained drive. Defense can't play much better than that. The Bad - Offensive execution. Yes the blame is not on the playcalling (although some calls are questionable), it is on the execution of the offense. USF had 327 yards of offense and that should result in more points than were actually scored. The reason it didn't was ... The Ugly - Turnovers killed us. Four interceptions and a fumble lost (two more fumbles that weren't lost) killed drives and the momentum that the offense was trying to build. An honest appraisal of the game indicates that USF beat USF. It was not what Memphis was doing, but what USF was not doing. USF has had a train wreck of a season, but the indications are that the program is building a solid foundation. There are many mistakes out there and they are not going to go away. This is not for lack of coaching, the same mistakes are being made over and over again. The coaches have addressed this issue over and over and it is just not sinking in. Until a better group of players that are more football saavy is available this poor performance will continue.
  24. The Good - Saw signs of life from the offense The Bad - Defense not fast enough, scoring drives for Houston were fast The Ugly - Penalties, some strange calls but too many legit and unquestionable anyway
