  1. Fonua and McCaskill will be here in the spring right? Fonua for sure.
  2. I don't really think much of smazza's opinions, but here are some names: Anthony Allen - RB at Louisville Chris Duvalt - CB at Illinois Thaddeus Lewis - QB Duke Tim Brown - WR at Rutgers Now some of them we may have missed out on for various reasons: Lewis wanted a Duke education, Brown is a 5'7" WR whereas we usually recruit much larger receivers. Point is, we have not yet put the lockdown on Florida where kids see us as right behind the Big 3. If a kid wanted to go to UF his whole life, he's going there regardless of what we do. However, the Pitts, NC States etc need to be shut down in Florida.
  3. Would the loyalty that you refer to be that of Rod Smith?  Just curious.  Based on what you've said, I question his in-week coaching specifically for the penalties that we have.  For instance, we get a lot of technique penalties like facemasks and pass interferences.  We also get a lot of holds.  As compared to formation penalties like offsides, false starts, # of men on the line of scrimmage, etc.  The discipline is also a big reason why I question Leavitt, especially with all of our off the field problems.  It seems as if the inmates are running the assylum. I would question loyalty to Rod Smith, although he appears to be doing better this year. I questioned having Lawrence Dawsey as well since the WRs did not run good patterns and dropped way too many balls. Those problems seem to have been corrected to some degree but we had 5 or 6 illegal procedures on the WRs. The DLs have had some problems too. When will we see the ends do something other than a speed rush up the field? Maybe the players are too young to know to go to another move? Also, the stupid defensive penalties have been around for several years and throughout this season. Hell UConn would not have made it past midfield if not for the ton of penalties. These are all coaching issues and things to be addressed if we want to "coach up" players. Having said all that, our players are young as are many of our coaches. The coaches need more experience at this level. Our coaches should be spending a good amount of time in the offseason at other schools learning how to improve their own coaching abilities.
  4. Good question. There are two (at least) aspects to coaching. Game day coaching and in-week (and offseason) coaching. Leavitt does some good things and some questionable things in each. Given that more of our players are athletes than pure football players, they need to be coached up. I think for kids to be coached up it is a question of in week coaching as the game day decisions do not make them better. CJL is a decent gameday coach and a pretty good in week coach. His major problem will be loyalty to assistants who are not that good, and therefore not helping coach players up.
  5. Yes MG makes mistakes. Redshirt freshman. It happens. The basic point is that when we used to get down by a score I would worry about getting down a second score as we could not come back. (See Pitt last year). Now when we are down a score I am not worried as a comeback is possible. I like PJ as a team captain and believe he is a good kid, but he does not have the ability to pass the ball consistently and move the chains.
  6. i am hoping this isnt leavitt's philosophy \ if so it is dumb you play to win and you best players should be on field Didn't you say earlier this week that none of the suspended guys should be allowed to return this year? Maybe I am mistaken.
  7. Spectator's on 41. I am in for UC but out of town this weekend.
  8. I like Taurus Johnson and Marcus Edwards. Played as true freshmen and continuing to get better.
  9. A player from USF would not be seriously considered for the Heisman until the team was a national title contender year and year out.

  11. Guys, let's not get carried away. They lost to decent teams, one of whom we lost to also. We are not great road warriers (worriers? yes). We can and should win this game. But a field goal sounds about right for the line.
  12. I have the same 2 1/2 hours from Fort Myers. I make it to most home games, unless work prohibits it. Wish I could say I made it to all of them.
  13. Ok, they need 3 wins.  They are @WV, Louisville, @Cincinnati, @USF, UConn, @Rutgers. Name for me the 3-4 wins they're gonna get with that schedule. Don't get me wrong, I think they are a decent team, but they are gonna have an uphill battle to bowl eligibility. They will look at their last 4 (after WVU and UL) as winnable; the same way we look at our next 4 (prior to UL and WVU). They are improved and am sure they think they can win those last 4.
  14. Grade A+++ ? Did he see our KO coverage?
  15. Last year against UCF the Law came over and advised us to sit down. After a bit, our area of section (133) was standing up again. The Law came back over and advised us that if we stood up again, the whole section would be thrown out. Now we were sitting next to a bunch of UCF students(yes they were drinking but not disorderly), but it was absolutely terrible to be told that you would be thrown out for standing when everyone was doing so. Watched the rest of the game from our seats. Now that I moved to section 134 (Row E) the whiners behind me have me sitting again. Not too keen on being thrown out of a game or arrested for my desire to stand.
  16. I agree with you Joe. Also, I think the genius label gets thrown around to offensive coaches more than defensive coaches. Mike Holmgren and Mike Shanahan are geniuses whereas Gregg Williams and Monte Kiffin are not.
  17. ET, for someone whose posts are optimistic this is a downer of a topic. :)Having said that, my most disappointing is UConn or Army.
  18. The quick snap play one play prior to Voodoo 5, where we rushed to the line and were flagged for a false start, was much worse. We had the best RB in the league and a very solid OL, so there was no reason to try and  be cute with so much on the line. We ran that same quick snap against WVU, and same false start. Led to a field goal instead of a shot at the TD.
  19. Kid had a big day. Hope we can hold on to him. http://www.news-press.com/apps/pbcs.dll/article?AID=/20061007/SPORTS01/610080306/1011
  20. No, we win 6-7 games with PJ as our QB this year. We win 5 of 6 home games (probably lose to Pitt, again) and 1 or 2 road games (UCF and Kansas?).
  21. Being a Bucs fan I think 10-7 wins are things of beauty. ;D
  22. Greg you are doing an awesome job on that blog. Keep up the good work.
