I think a lot of this DC discussion is missing the progress that has been made this year. Our strategy all year has been to stop the run and force the other team to pass. We have made most teams one dimensional and that is an improvement over last year. Yes, its true that teams can run up huge numbers of passing yards against us but I have to assume that is because we just don't have the horses on the back-end to actually stop the pass on a consistent basis. At least we do limit teams by stopping the run. I would suspect that it will take a year or two to get the guys that are needed to consistently be able to stop both. It is what it is and I think that is also why we are seeing such aggressive blitzing and playing calling by the DC. If he knows we aren't going to stop them anyway then we might as well at least often attempt to get to the QB to force a punt because they are behind the chains with a big sack. If you view the defense through the lens of just lacking the necessary talent to really stop the pass then the whole thing makes sense. I am choosing to go with that.

Making a bowl game would be huge and we need this game to make that happen. So yes!

Outscored them after the first 4 minutes. Two drives in the second half in their territory that led to no points was the difference. That INT was huge and a big mistake. Although I agree with CAG that it was interference. Still, as was mentioned, very entertaining and scrappy to come back and take the lead when we easily could have folded.

This really shouldn't be an emotional issue and I think that is the way CAG approaches it. The math is either on your side or it isn't. The one caveat is that a coach needs to take into account the efficiency of the offense. Are they good in short yardage and have the horses up front? Do we have the plays in the passing game to keep it efficient? Is the QB strong enough to help push the pile when under center? The math says that in most cases a team should go but not in all cases. I am sure CAG has his opinion about where we are in all of this. I personally hate to punt any time it is less than 1.5 yards to go. If you can't snap to a QB under center and push him 1.5 yards there are issues. Offensive lineman thrive in these cases...including ours.

What I don't understand is what happened to the defense. We looked competent to down right decent the first few games. The last two games receivers are running wide open all over the field and every play looks like complete confusion. I don't know if we lost some people or what but we won't win another game if that doesn't change. Another big change is we can't get to the quarterback again. The defense, as a whole, is back to looking just like last year where I had zero hope we would ever get off the field. It is that way again. I am beginning to think the excessive blitzing is a huge problem. Our DB's can't be isolated in the secondary like they are when we blitz. Drop more people and keep things in front of us. UAB and FAU had so many explosive plays over 20+ yards it was ridiculous. Something has to change on D.

I really can’t figure out why Navy is favored against us. We have at least beaten a real team and our defense is playing lights out against the run. I know Navy throws more now but I still expect us to make it very difficult to run and force them to be one dimensional. I also expect us to score on Navy. If we play anywhere near to potential we should win this game. I believe we will.

We will win this game. No one has run up the middle on us this season consistently. They will be forced outside and our LB’s and DB’s will eat them up. Looking for a 3 touchdown win

What I noticed from Brown right from the outset was that he was trusting himself more. He would make the reads and then just step into the throw and fire it. It was a beautiful thing to watch. He had total trust in that and because of that he was hitting receivers right in stride on the numbers. Dropping dimes. He was much more decisive this game and that was the difference. If you hesitate you get smashed and he didn't hesitate Saturday. When he throws like that he is tough. 4 years of this kid is an amazing thought.

Awesome! Thanks for posting the YouTube link. I love how Coach Go is simplifying things for the players…do this, perfect what you’re doing, and you will get the results you deserve. They are seeing now that he was right and it should result in them even working harder. Things like this become self fulfilling prophecies in a good way just like negatives can drag you down.

I think we just weren’t quite where we need to be on offense. It sort of worked but it just didn’t click 100%. Felt like 60% there. At times awesome and at other times not so good. Offensive line got swarmed and didn’t handle it well but BB didn’t get off the quick check downs either and got hit too much. Give him a few games and this train will be rolling.

Be patient. This is far from over. The ACC or BIG12 will both be courting us at some point AND/OR the PAC2 will join the AAC/MWC or whatever. No matter how you slice it this is not done and we are too valuable a TV market and a high quality institution to be left behind forever. It is very dynamic.

Realignment fatigue is setting in….hoping something happens soon…anything…just want to know.

What? Just about every legitimate option involving the AAC mentions us.

I am stoked. I don't think CAG is messing around. He isn't giving a bunch of coach speak. He knows we have sucked and I also think he knows why and how to fix it. He isn't going to go around touting things and pounding his chest ahead of time but I get the feeling come game day we will come to play. I suspect we will see a pretty quick 2 year turnaround.
