Like the SEC, the Big12 may mandate OoC game against P5 conference

It's going to get harder and harder for us to get a chance to beat P5 teams moving forward. I personally doubt the Texas games ever happen if we stay stuck in the AAC.

The P5 is further squeezing the rest of college sports to assert COMPLETE domination.

Frankly, I'm surprised it isn't already a mandate.

Bowlsby was talking about mandating ONE of their three OOC games has to be against a P5 - one of the reasons Baylor didn't get in was that their SOS was weak - they played NO P5 teams outside the B12

To help beef up the league's nonconference schedules, Bowlsby said the Big 12 would discuss the possibility of mandating a Power 5 nonconference opponent like the SEC has done, beginning in 2016.

"The only way we would do that is if our ADs acted to do it," he said. "It isn't something I'm going to mandate, but it's something we'll talk about for sure, absolutely."

Baylor's nonconference schedule -- which included SMU, Northwestern State and Buffalo -- was called into question by committee chair Jeff Long, but Bowlsby said the nonconference schedule "is about trying to get your football team ready to play the conference season."

The problem with any kind of mandate like this is the fact that these teams need 7 or 8 homes games every season... that will be impossible to do if they only play each other.

So the G5 will continue to have access... but it will be very hard to get home-and-home games with the P5.  We might get 2-for-1 deals... or we'll get passed over for another G5 team that would be willing to take a 1-and-done game.

I think the argument about needing 7 or 8 home games doesn't hold water anymore. The P5 teams are bringing in more money from tv, playoffs, etc. than they ever dreamed possible. That's an old bs argument that should have went away when all of the bcs money started flowing. If a P5 needs a 7th or 8th game for their athletic programs to survive then there must be some serious mismanagement of money going on.

USF brings in a small fraction of what the P5 brings in yet we can build all of these new facilities and pay our coaches over $1m a year. All with low attendance and a small donor base on top of it.

I don't think the SEC's is for them to play all OOC games against P5 teams, but to have at least one on their schedule.

And even if we get those, we'll likely get bought out for the 1 return game ...

IMO, the P5 is teetering on the brink of anti-trust.

Great point...and only a handful (if that) ever end up with 8 home games....and while most have 7 home games per year...almost all other P5 programs in other conf seem to be able to manage 1 or even 2 non-conf games vs P5 opponents.

Hope the Playoff Committee slams teams with joke non-conf schedules in the future...
