Our new base defense. Gone is the 3-4 (thank god). I'm not sure what I think. Do we have enough defense backs and safeys to effectively run this?

That's a nickel defense. Need a good nickel back/safety who can cover the run AND the pass.

The 5th DB will more than likely be a Hybrid LB/S type player than a traditional nickelback.  At least that's the personnel Ole Miss used while Allen was there. I like that it allows for really creative blitz packages and allows you to disguise your coverages if used properly.

Yeah, Hybrid is just a nice way of saying "tweener" and FL has a ton of kids that are too undersized to play LB in the 4-3 but not quite fast or fluid enough to be a true safety.  It's a great way to utilize versatile athletes that don't have a true home in a more traditional front.

Better scheme or not, new DC or not, I'm still much more worried about our O in order for us to get out of this hole. I do hope this plays to our strengths though.
