This is evident by Holtz's record and some of the quality wins the team had in the first year. The problem was that Holtz could not recruit the talent to replace what was leaving or coach up his recruits, and Holtz's coaching weaknesses were exposed ultimately leading to his firing. Most will admit that Taggert walked into a situation that was pretty poor form a talent and morale standpoint, and like anything that has been brought to a halt it takes some time to get things back up to speed, if that person even has what it takes to turn around such a horrible situation. While the quartback position has been a disappointment for the last three years, the front seven has also lacked playmakers for the same timeframe. CWT was handed a pretty bad situation and I am not sure if he is capable of turning something this bad this around. Quite honestly, any turnaround will probably happen in tiers. CWT may get us to 4-5 wins a year, but it may take another coach to get us to lower tier bowls consistently, and then another to get us where we were under Leavitt. Unfortuantly, its easy to destroy a program in 3 years but the odds are long to get one turned around in the same period of times, especially with as low as the program has fallen. And Holtz walked into a split locker room that had half wanting Jim still there and the other half glad he was gone. Not an easy situation. But Taggart had the same problem. A lot of the players were upset that Holtz was gone.
