What would really screw things up is if FSU gets in, the SEC gets two, and Notre Dame makes it.  That would leave the PAC12, the Big Ten, and the Big 12 out of it.

You'd start hearing some serious talk about expanding to 8 immediately in that case ...

Mississippi State, undefeated or not at this point, shouldn't even be in the conversation with their weak ass ooc scheduling. Hopefully they'll get knocked off somewhere along the line ...

you absolutely correct

It will go to eight soon enough.  What I would like to see is eight, with the five P5 champs, the highest ranked G5 champ, and two at large.  That would lead the least amount of complaining.

Sounds good to me .... except I'd put some qualifier on the highest ranked G5 champ, maybe minimum Top 25. If not one, go to 3 at large.

no one wants the g5

no sex appeal

I think it'll only be a matter of a few years before they expand to eight teams, and 5-10 years after that it will expand to 16. Especially with a few more seasons like this year. The more chaos reigns on the field, the more teams there will be who are pissed that they got left out, which will lead to conferences getting pissed that their teams were left out in favor of other conferences' teams. It really is a matter of when, not if.

I believe they can stop at eight.  Almost any argument out there would be covered.

Could easily go to 16 if they seeded division champs instead of conference champs...

Again, no there wouldn't.  They are NEVER going to take three teams from one conference.

Sure wish they would.

Three SEC teams plus Notre Dame. Yowsa!!

The other conferences would scream so loudly, they'd expand to 8 teams the very next year.

"There is no inherent fear among this group of players. The fear of failing drove the program from day one - the fear of failing the coaches, the fan base, the university, each teammate, themselves. Now, as we head into the biggest game in our history at home on a national stage against the highest ranked team to step on OUR field, the players are taking an introspective look at themselves. Unfortunately, I don't know if they get it. They lack the fear."

    Terry Lucas, 09/26/22
