I need to qualify, in a 4 team playoff they never would

 

How about 2 SEC teams, plus ND and BYU !??!?!?.

What would really screw things up is if FSU gets in, the SEC gets two, and Notre Dame makes it.  That would leave the PAC12, the Big Ten, and the Big 12 out of it.

With either of your scenarios, they would go to 8 team this year.  BYU is out though they're 4-4

If the playoffs were to actually happen today, I am quite confident the rankings would look different.  Because the three play each other, it's easy to put them there right now.

Steve, I'm telling you that if the playoffs were to be held today, they would have selected differently.  There is no way the other P5 conferences are going to allow three teams from anyone conference in.  It's a moot point anyway, since they play each other still.

THE P5 CONFERENCES dont have a say in  it.they dont have a vote.what in the world are you talking about. the sec is the power conference.

 

the big 10 is definitely not having a team in the playoffs

 

so that now leaves 4 conferences left

 

it sure will be interesting down the road
