It's really interesting to see how teams we have defeated since our rise in 2007 move on to great things while we move backwards Auburn: 2007 USF defeats Auburn Away 2010 season, Auburn wins Championship 2013 season, Auburn loses to FSU Notre Dame: 2011 USF defeats Notre Dame Away 2012 Season, Notre Dame loses to Alabama Florida State: 2009 USF defeats FSU Away, 2012 season FSU defeats USF home 2013 season, FSU wins championship, (over auburn no less) 3 years removed from their defeat Auburn wins the championship. 6 years removed Auburn appears again 1 year removed from their defeat Notre dame plays in the national championship game. 4 years removed from their defeat FSU wins the national championship. Since 2007, How many teams not listed below have beaten any 3 of the following teams: Florida state, Auburn, Alabama, Notre Dame, LSU, Oregon, Texas, Oklahoma, Ohio state, Florida

But very interesting perspective on the powerhouse schools we have even able to take down.

If someone did the research and said we are one of 2 or 3 teams to defeat 3 of the last 10 teams who played in the NC game over the last 7 years, that would be a pretty impressive note. I don't think our school has ever been that great with statistical or interesting sports notes.

Then what SEC team outside of those 4 has beaten 3 of the 4 since 2007? Looks like Georgia is one. Seems SEC teams are certainly more likely to have done this being so many of the teams were from the SEC. Outside of teams that won the national championship since 2007 I bet less than 5 teams have defeated 3 participants.

We beat these teams and within 5 years... as little as 3 and even 1 season later they end up in the championship game... while we don't improve at all and in fact we get much much worse in those same 5 years. It's not "living in the past" as much as it is recognizing a pattern in our program and just happens to be an interesting observation. We're probably 1 of 3 or 4 teams. Here is to the potential future our program has.

College football is predicated on living in the past. How do you think Wake Forrest, Iowa State, Miss Dtate, Washington State, etc. are in the P5? Because Ole Miss beat Texas and LSU last year and Auburn in 2012 so 3 of those teams in the past 2 seasons. Since 2007 they have beaten Texas, LSU three times, Auburn twice, and Florida.
