I believe EA Sports will changing the way the market their NCAA video games. Will it be as interesting to play NCAA football without any players names attached? Guess we will find out. There are plenty of examples of colleges experiencing a large increase in interest and applications to a college based on the success and notieriety generated by its athletics teams. From Boston College to Butler. If a student wanted to go to a school due to athletics, they would not choose USF. USF has been drawing in better qualified freshmen due to the successes of the faculty including research personnel and staff. major props need to be given to those guys...at some schools, highly qualified students probably go because of athletics or it could be due to the overall tradition and the brand that school has built over generations...a good athletics program can have a good marketing effect on a school but I am not sure how much success on the playing field reflects success in recruiting potential students... Its not going because of, its knowing about and getting interested in the school because of exposure. You have no idea how out of market, how many people I talked to that knew hardly anything about USF but wanted to know more after the football team came out of nowhere. Talk talk talk about college athletics and recruiting and athletes perks ( or lack there of) and money... It's all driven by a demand for football and basketball games on TV. How can the demand be met in a way that is fair the the athletes, the student body and competing universities?

This is what has been the main driving force of conference realignment. It is less about winning than it is about being able to draw a large and somewhat reliable audience to be able to sell and market stuff to.
