In addition to the extension for skip was the fact that Doug also renewed with the university. Skip's new contract had some additional bonuses which were not there previously and doug's new contract gave him a matching bonus to anything achieved by skip, among others. Worried that skip would leave or setting up for a big payday? Voodoo5 had a couple articles about it.

That was my thinking as well. the "he was going to be poached " reason wasn't true IMO. I wish people would stop using that as an excuse. He wanted to rework their deals to increase his bonus opportunities.

He signed both Heath and Holtz to new deals just before he signed his new deal in Sep 2012. His bonuses were directly tied to their increased bonuses. Of course he wanted to rework their deals to increase their bonuses because they increased his bonus opportunities as well. In fact winning the big east bonus doubled to $200k. here is from the times

As a result, Woolard can be paid "incentive payments in equal and cumulative amounts to the performance incentives which are earned and paid to the head coaches" under their contracts. His base salary did not change with the new contract.

and

Nearing the end of USF's fiscal year, on the same day Genshaft sent Woolard the offer letter, he signed an extension for football coach Skip Holtz, and the next day, for men's basketball coach Stan Heath, with both new deals including upgraded postseason incentives. Genshaft co-signed the extensions on June 25, with Holtz's bonus for winning the Big East doubling to $200,000, and $400,000 for playing in the national title game. Heath, whose previous contract paid him $25,000 for making the NCAA Tournament, now gets $50,000 for that, as well as an additional $25,000 for each NCAA Tournament win.

Another brilliant after the fact discussion...

History must have been a tough subject.

Maybe when they get canned he should too then.

For the folks that say he isn't responsible for the performance of the team, do you think taking bonus money for said performance is okay?

1. Shouldn't that answer the question of whether he "cares" or not?

2. Guess he isn't taking bonus money is he?

1. anybody that says he doesn't care hasn't a clue

2. no he's not

the fact that he reworked a contract, which included an extension(nobody would sign a new deal without one) for an underperforming coach just so he could increase his bonus opportunity says that he doesn't much care for the donors or the athletic fund. he didn't have to come out of pocket for the buyout.there was no risk and only reward as far as he was concerned.

Cares because of bonus money?

Who cares if he cares or what drives his care?  Your argument with me is you disagree USF Athletics is worse off now than when Doug took over.

My point was with people that question whether he "cares" or not, not with you in particular.  Your quote just had everything in it for me to highlight.

I was at the Notre Dame game as were many of you. It felt great despite the weather problems. After watching it on video, I tend to agree with the ND fan sitting behind me. Outside of one solid scoring drive, we thrived on ND's errors. In his words they "gave us the game". In my words they played badly enough to lose. We got very lucky. They moved the ball on us at will. Their turnovers were the difference.

you can say the same about a number of our big OOC wins

Turnovers:

Auburn: 5

USF: 0

WVU: 6

USF: 4

FSU: 4

USF: 2

ND: 5

USF: 0

Indeed, and some have been luckier than others.

one lucky guy

he is never held accountable

Woolard is buddies with John Ramil chair of the USF board of trustees.  Both have adjacent boat slips at Uncle Henry’s Marina on Gasparilla Island.  They pal around and fish together.  Woolard knows which A&& to kiss to keep his job.  Look how quick Skippy was fired when Ramil express disgust last year after we lost to Temple.
