how many losses by last minute field goals did we have last season?

this year Taggs is WINNING these games.

is it pretty?  no. but they are W's, and they are in-conference where it matters most.

it took Taggart 4 losses to find something that worked, ugly or otherwise... but only 2 of those games (McNeese, FAU) were absolutely putrid, the other 2 were either expected beatdowns (Miami) or competitive games (MichState) against much better "Big 5" conference teams.

now he is finding ways to win, even if the players can't get into the endzone, even with starting QB and RB sitting out, and despite the hideous atrocity that is Bobby Eveld's quarterbacking.

it's still far too soon to crown Willie savior of a floundering program-- 2 wins does not a "turnaround" make, but there is definite improvement with this team and there is a glimmer of light at the tunnel that maybe the skid of successively horrifying seasons for this program has ended.

It is so much nicer being on this side of the close games! I agree with most of what you said but I truly think that Cincy lost the game more than we won it and this game UCONN is just in awful shape, worse than us which is saying a lot. I'll take whatever we can get but I think Louisville and Houston will bring us down just as quick as these two wins have lifted us up.

Really we some because somehow UConn dropped two TD's zero improvement from last year CWT is not the answer

LOL .... Only 6 games in, with one short recruiting season but we know CWT is not the answer. God bless some of our fans.

Haha. God bless them is right! These aren't his players pcaramal. Give him a break. If things don't continue to get better and at the end of next season we're still watching this kind of football then the skepticism is fair but right now it's not.

QB play was awful in this game put in any semi decent division one qb and you would see a decent offense.

Hopefully bench will continue to improve at qb...

I was talking about this with another table at Beefs today after the win.  It is nice to AT THE VERY LEAST switch the curse.. We are now competing within our conference and losing outside of it.  For a long time we have experienced success OOC but floundered in conference play.  I will take it.

That reflects how really bad our conference has become.

Very true. Cincy is not nearly as bad as they played against us but after this year if we don't compete for the AAC conference ship every season something is very wrong. Sad that we'll have to get excited with wins over teams like Tulane, East Carolina, Memphis etc rather than Pitt, Rutgers, West Virginia.

Okay but the early impression is not favorable, the last two wins are wonderful, but not sure they are signature

CWT is making lemonade out of lemons the last couple weeks.  Do you not see that?  You're the first I've seen that seems frustrated he doesn't have a "signature" win yet.  You seem to be grasping at anything you can to criticize CWT by bringing up lack of a "signature" win ...

The biggest thing, IMO, is that guys aren't looking for the bottom to fall out at the first sign of adversity. The last couple years every time something bad happened our guys looked like they were just expecting more and more bad things to happen.

We've talked about getting back to being the toughest, most violent people out there. Let's be the best version of ourselves and really get back to the culture of how we (USF) used to step across the line and play anybody. Let's hold on to the culture of when they were tough … and they (opponents) knew it was going to be long damn day for themselves.

"There is no inherent fear among this group of players. The fear of failing drove the program from day one - the fear of failing the coaches, the fan base, the university, each teammate, themselves. Now, as we head into the biggest game in our history at home on a national stage against the highest ranked team to step on OUR field, the players are taking an introspective look at themselves. Unfortunately, I don't know if they get it. They lack the fear."
