I knew him only through his postings on Greg's blog over many years. Didn't always agree, but always appreciated his thoughts and his passion for USF. I'm still in shock at this news. What a terrible loss. My thoughts are with his family.

Jupe, thanks for posting the story about Steve. It's truly a sad day for us who knew him and followed him on GA's blog. I plan on attending the memorial service tomorrow and will be there for the pre-game tailgate in Steve's honor. Thanks for posting this in order to get the word out to those who were not aware of Steve's passing.

Wait - is Steve the fella who had a USF tattoo on each arm?!?!

Yes, that was Steve. He was a huge USF sports fan. He will be missed by all who knew him.

I received the news of Steve's passing with total shock and dismay. I truly enjoyed interacting with Steve on Greg's blog over the past few years. He was always witty, insightful, and enlightening. My heart goes out to Mrs. O'Neal and her children. I hope they know Steve was loved by us all and made our lives much more interesting. God bless, Steve; USF football will not be the same without you.

we must have been at usf at the same time

I don't believe Steve was ever a USF student.

RIP

Ned, that's part of what made his love for USF so amazing.  He wasn't an alum.  He was a local guy who loved to support the program, and was also very excited to watch USF's basketball team this year, and was telling me he was looking forward to enjoying his season ticktets at the Sun Dome. I wish more USF alum had his passion, and made the noise he made at the games.

JT, we were talking about you & Turd Ferguson at the FAU game, and saying it would be cool to clink beers someday (ok, I was trying to convince him on Turd, but that's another story!!).  He gave it & took it all in stride on GA's blog, and sometimes we had to dial him down a bit (man, that Burger King story took on a life on it's own!).

I am CA this week, and can't make it to the Miami game, but I'm hoping to catch a game later this year and hoist a beer in Steve O's honor with his family, and maybe BullMark and anyone else who wants to gather.

I'm hoping to see some of you at the UConn game in CT in a few weeks.

It's been a tough few months to be a Bulls fan:  Auman leaves, his blog becomes a pay site (and is now a ghost town, sadly), our Bulls are flailing with no end in sight and now Steve O (one of the program's staunchest supportors) has passed.  But...we remain fans, recall the past fondly and look forward to better days ahead.

GO BULLS!

Steve always brought a smile to my face. I won't be down until the Ville game. He was really a good sport and had a good wit. I'll always remember how much fun we had debating recruiting vs. coaching. We went round and round on that topic. Going to miss him.

Could someone text me Bonnie's number please. I spoke with some former players who still talk with Coach Leavitt and requested they pass the news to Jim. One of the players requested Bonnie's number so Jim could speak with her. Steve was extremely fond of Jimbo and Jim interacted with Steve throughout the years when he was running the program for us. I know Jim can't be taking the news so well. I can be reached at 210-913-4397. Thanks... Terry

“In my mind, I’m kind of like, ‘OK, excuses over'. We know what we need to do. We’ve got the right team together, and now we move forward, and we’ll evaluate and be accountable to each other, including myself, from this point forward.”

Last I checked the scoreboard doesn't have a spot for current bank balance on it.
