Some will say Robert Weiner was a better recruiter at Plant than Skip Holtz was at #USF.

Zing!

Educate me as how this will lock down recruiting in 2016.

Good question.

recruiting is all about relationships. Weiner has them not only with Plant high school where I'm sure they will hire someone he recommends but he also has them with other area high schools. great hire for what amounts to a position coach.

Jesuit and Plant have had a bit of a friendly series going on the past few seasons. Both of the Evelds were involved in it. I doubt the connection changed anything, but we may be keeping at least one Eveld on the roster next season as a walk on at least.

Well if this staff can't recruit to USF then it just can't be done in the new new new BE.

From Greg's Tweet:

USF's Chris Breit, on Weiner recruiting in Tampa: "It's a huge pipeline. Plant, Robinson, Armwood, anywhere. Coaches, they all respect him."

I don't follow HS football ... Very happy.

Who are potential immediate flips?

Just curious not being from the Tampa area or knowing Weiner, but how does this lock down Tampa in the long run? As an example, Why would a 5 star recruit from Tampa, or for that matter Plant HS, want to go to USF over Offers from Alabama, ND, USC, Texas, UF, etc. because of our WR coach?

Weiner is an awesome coach, and he is extremely well-respected across the state. If you were tuned into twitter when this broke, you would have seen coaches across the state raving about this hire, from Jacksonville to Miami. Whoever runs state powerhouse Miramar's football twitter account liked it a lot. Weiner attends most of the coaching clinics around the state throughout the year.

Plant was in absolutely terrible shape when Weiner took over at in 2004. They won just 3 games in 2004. In just his second year, he got them back to the playoffs and even won their first round game before bowing out to Armwood. Then in year 3, Weiner led Plant to a 15-0 record and an incredible state championship win over a Tim Tebow QB'ed Nease team. He followed that up with state championships in 2008, 2009, and 2011.

The excellent players that have developed under him are endless.

A 1983 Jesuit High graduate, Weiner, 47, spent more than a decade as an assistant at his alma mater, but had no previous head football coaching experience before arriving at Plant in 2004. In nine seasons with the Panthers, he has compiled a 102-19 record, which includes eight playoff berths and five state finals appearances.

His four state titles are the most of any bay area coach in the modern era (1963-present). Nationally lauded for his development of quarterbacks, his proteges include Robert Marve (Miami/Purdue), Aaron Murray (Georgia), Phillip Ely (Alabama) and James Few (Cornell). All led Plant to state titles.

We'll have more on this story as it develops.

Times staff writer Greg Auman contributed to this report.

Another great hire...goes to show that the other staff was a little old fashioned and lost.

This should scoop up some of the talents that has been leaving the 813 and 727 for other schools.

But we have to start winning too or these kids will just keep over looking USF and it's coaches

Since its a public school, does he also do the false addresses and paperwork for them?
