Greenville NC is tiny, how does this help with tv negotiations?

Leaving aside snarky comments about how they own everything south of Raleigh and easy of Charlotte (and that's how a lot of their fans talk) they would be a great traveling fanbase and a pretty competitive program. We've had their number but they can actually be good.

On the bright side with all the decent programs leaving and the addition of Conference USA teams maybe we can win a conference championship. Oh wait, forgot Holtz is still our coach....never mind.

I think that ECU was added because the program might be ready to move up, at least as ready as UCF, and might help get OOC wins against BCS opponents and thus garner respect. As for ratings, ECU might be the type of program that is more regional when it comes to ratings. Its like USF, a large school, the second largest in the state, and has alumni everywhere. The Tulane add, in New Orleans, has to be for TV ratings. Academics would be the only other reason. If Tulane were located in Greenville, NC, I doubt they would have gotten an invite.

The only reason is The Big Least is DESPERATE!

I was going to say something similar, ECU fans will be quick to tell anyone who will listen that their fan base stretches from Charlotte to Virginia Beach and includes that area (it has a name, like trifecta or tri-something i think). It's a spread out base supposedly since eastern North Carolina is mostly rural.

Their fan base reminds me of a smaller version of Clemson. A bit annoying, but very passionate. And their stadium fills up. And Clemson has a very SEC-esque fan base, so if ECU is just a lesser version, that's more than I can say for the fan bases at Marshall, UAB, USM, or other possible targets.

I know they like to use the term "Down East" but not 100 percent sure if that includes Pitt county.

Three words, Vincent Kennedy McMahon. Rocky D. Bull against Pirate Pete in a cage match at the next Royal Rumble.

I agree... their fans might likely drive down to Tampa and some of ours might drive up to Greenville.

While they don't bring anything to the Big East, they do bring a nearby warm body that is in conference to go and visit once in a while. Who knows some local Greenville entrepreneurs might start fixing up the joint if they get large crowds of visiting fans to the area?
