Thought Boeheim had it, too .... I guess quadrupling your conference wins in one of the toughest conferences was worth something after all. Has a BECOY ever not gone to the Big Dance? B)

Good question. I guess it can't hurt. Sheds more light on the program and what a great year it was to the naysayers and the committee.

Crowder, Heath take Big East awards

NEW YORK (AP)—Marquette senior forward Jae Crowder has been selected Big East Player of the Year while South Florida’s Stan Heath is Coach of the Year and St. John’s Moe Harkless the Rookie of the Year.

The awards, chosen by the coaches, were announced Tuesday.

The 6-foot-6 Crowder averaged 17.6 points, third in the conference, and 7.9 rebounds, ninth in the league, for the Golden Eagles, who finished second.

Harkless, one of five freshmen to start for the Red Storm, averaged 15.5 points and 8.5 rebounds, which put him sixth and second, respectively, among freshmen nationally. The only other St. John’s Rookie of the Year was David Russell in 1980, the conference’s first season.

Heath led the Bulls, who were picked 14th in the preseason poll, to a 12-6 conference record, their first winning mark in their seven seasons in the Big East.

amazing job this year....hopefully this translates into some BIG time recruits over the next few years.

That award doesn't really affect recruiting. It is a great achievement for Heath on a personal level. It's not something anyone can ever take away from him no matter what the future of his coaching career will be.

At least Mike Brey didn't win again which I thought he would.

The only tragedy here is that AC didn't get BEROY. He played his heart out this year and is obviously an integral part of the Bulls emergence. Can't imagine a player more important to his BE team than he unless it's Uconn's Lamb. Still for a rookie, an incredible performance. Way to go AC, we love the fact that you are gonna be here for a while.
