Hood ornament sounds better

I wonder if Eddie posts here.

Eddie (Orlando)

My USF Bulls have been playing suprisingly well, would a top 5 finish in the Big East (12-6ish in conference and a 20-12 record overall if they earned that record) put them on the bubble for a NCAA bid or are all those close, bad losses at the start of the year too much to overcome

Joe Lunardi (5:02 PM)

No disrespect, Eddie, but if South Florida goes 12-6 in the Big East, I'll drive to Tampa and hand-deliver their NCAA bid.

Someone could do some funny signs with that for the game and it would get air time.

Anybody seen Lunardi yet?

Where's Lunardi with our NCAA bid?

Hey Joe Lunardi, where's our bid?

Something along those lines.

Joey Johnson took note of the quote today.

Louisville win pushes USF into serious NCAA discussion

TAMPA --

When the University of South Florida men's basketball team arrived back on campus this morning, due to a lengthy charter airplane delay on the tarmac in Louisville, Ky., it was approximately 4:15 a.m.

But the Bulls felt no pain.

When they finally touched down in Tampa, the calendar had turned to March. How appropriate.

Yes, after two decades, March Madness has returned to USF.

After the Bulls defeated No. 19-ranked Louisville 58-51 – in what coach Stan Heath calls "the biggest win in school history'' – there is ample evidence that USF will hear its name called for the 68-team NCAA Tournament field on the March 11 Selection Sunday.

USF is 19-11, 12-5 in the Big East, with the regular-season finale against the West Virginia Mountaineers awaiting on Saturday at the Tampa Bay Times Forum.

In the history of the Big East Conference, there have been 69 teams to win 12 games or more in the league.

All 69 have been selected for the NCAA Tournament.

The Bulls, seeking their first NCAA appearance since 1992 and only the third in program history, are today's buzz of college basketball. Recently, ESPN analyst Joe Lunardi, who projects the tournament field on an almost daily basis, jokingly said he would drive to Tampa and "hand-deliver'' an NCAA bid to USF if the Bulls went 12-6 in the Big East.

Now 12-6 is the worst USF could finish.

The Bulls already have a first-round bye for next week's Big East Conference Tournament at Madison Square Garden. But if USF defeats West Virginia – along with either Georgetown losing to Marquette OR Notre Dame falling to Providence on Saturday – the Bulls would earn a double-bye into the Big East quarterfinals.

The college basketball pundits already seemed convinced about USF's direction.

"Case closed – USF will dance baby,'' ESPN's **** Vitale wrote on his Twitter feed.

"South Florida just earned a spot in the field,'' tweeted the well-respected college basketball columnist, Jeff Goodman, of CBSSports.com.

And there was this from ESPN's Jason King: "OK, South Florida. I'm sold. Bulls are biggest surprise of the season other than Indiana.''

USF has begun a heavy marketing push for its game against West Virginia (18-12, 8-9).

All tickets are $10 with children admitted free (as has been the case all season). Free parking is being offered to USF students (with a student ID) in the front section of the Forum's North Lot.

The Bulls are 14-1 this season at home venues, even as the on-campus Sun Dome is undergoing renovations before re-opening next season. USF drew a season-high 6,784 fans on Sunday for a 46-45 win against Cincinnati.

Be nice please when you email him. I think it would be fun if he did show up and ESPN or SI covered it. Could get some great PR from that....

I am emailing him now.

Remember his comment was meant as tongue-in-cheek, so please do not be disrespectful if you email him. But instead invite him here. Would be fun to have a bulls pen event at a local bar/pub with him, and enjoy a few beers.

Note, he has us in his bracket as of now.

"There is no inherent fear among this group of players. The fear of failing drove the program from day one - the fear of failing the coaches, the fan base, the university, each teammate, themselves. Now, as we head into the biggest game in our history at home on a national stage against the highest ranked team to step on OUR field, the players are taking an introspective look at themselves. Unfortunately, I don't know if they get it. They lack the fear."
