Its not dead, just in the grinding wheels of the Tallahassee bureaucracy. There was a minor victory in the Senate last week, and now we wait and see what the House does. The proposal still has to make it past the Governor also.

We really need to make it a point and not let the issue go off the radar... keep it in the eyes of the legislature... they tend to have short attention spans. Rumblings from both the House and the Governor seem to support USF's side of things, but as Outrunner has mentioned all this has to grind through state government. Oldsmobull Posted February 28, 2012 Group: Member Topic Count: 0 Content Count: 791 Reputation: 44 Days Won: 3 Joined: 09/02/2009 Share Posted February 28, 2012 House and Senate "Leaders" it seems cut a deal or understanding on USF Poly split and funding for universities this morning after a brief stall in Florida budget negotiations between the two chambers. Looks like Senate plan and JD Alexander prevailed. Nothing is final yet though. http://www.tampabay.com/news/politics/legislature/article1217465.ece

We really need to make it a point and not let the issue go off the radar... keep it in the eyes of the legislature... they tend to have short attention spans. The $25 millon was actually the first retraction. However since then, $47 million was restored. So now instead of $79 million (58%) being cut, it will be $45.6 million (26%) Part of it is $3 million for the School of Pharmacy. It's budget actually required $6 million, but at least the school will survive. But, in what looks like a compramise, they voted to support JD Alexander's plan to separate Lakeland immediately The govenor has been quoted as saying he doesnt support JD's immediate separation, and instead what was outlined in the Board of Govenors But let's see how good to his word he is The House doesnt look like it supports the independence move either Their plan is to cut 8.4% across from all universities. Much more fair In case you missed my previous post/update. Please read it.. its quite... yeah... eye-opening http://thebullspen.com/index.php?/topic/83173-budget-compromised-reached/page__p__991214#entry991214

The legislature is going to look like real idiots if they approve an immediate USF Poly split now. http://miamiherald.typepad.com/nakedpolitics/2012/02/genshaft-usf-poly-would-be-accredited-more-quickly-under-bog-path.html

All Judy nees to do is ask Jim Norman to structure a deal with JD. (Jim has experience with deals that appear to be legal).First, ask JD where his wife likes to vacation, second, buy her a house there. He (Jim) must remember a $500,000 house is OK for a County Commissioner, but a Senate This committee chairman may require a more elaborate home. Seems pretty simple to me.
