I think Nick Saban and Les Miles as Co-DC's would have been better

We despised him at Maryland. his defense was only geared towards not giving up the big play. it was painful to watch because the opponent's time of possession would always be through the roof. it's just not exciting to watch a defense that doesn't blitz and gives up a few yards at a time allowing them to march down the field. i don't think we had the talent at the time to go real aggressive, but we all really hated Cosh and loved his replacement, Don Brown. Sorry I couldn't come with better news for you guys.

My take on many of the moves that Holtz has been making this year (recruiting wise) is that he knows he is getting a lot of pressure to compete for the conference championship this year or he will be in a lot of hot water with the administration. The fact that we used so many open scholarships on JUCO transfers tells me the heat for immediate success is on. I don't think he has the time to bring in so many HS recruits and let them develop under his watch. I think a move to bring in a guy like Cosh, where it isn't necssarily a step up as a DC, but more about the familiarity he has with him because they worked together in the past is in keeping with the "we need to win now" necessity rather than having time to learn a new system and getting to know each other and the players.

Just my opinion.

I agree with your take!

So, you mean pretty much the 10 yards off the line CB scheme we've been playing the past two years?

yeah, we gave a ton of room. we had players at CB like Josh Wilson and Kevin Barnes, too.

to give some hope- for being a stodgy white guy, i think he was an above average recruiter.

Not thrilled about it, but he won't have to stop offenses like Oklahoma and OK State anymore. This is a 'wait and see' hire for me. Holtz is obviously comfortable with him, since i'm assuming he is getting more than Snyder while he was here.

If he fails and causes us to have another losing season, he could be the downfall of Holtz as well.

Here's hoping he can do well with *hopefully* having some better recruits/players than he's used to at Maryland and K State.

“In my mind, I’m kind of like, ‘OK, excuses over'. We know what we need to do. We’ve got the right team together, and now we move forward, and we’ll evaluate and be accountable to each other, including myself, from this point forward.”

We've talked about getting back to being the toughest, most violent people out there. Let's be the best version of ourselves and really get back to the culture of how we (USF) used to step across the line and play anybody. Let's hold on to the culture of when they were tough … and they (opponents) knew it was going to be long damn day for themselves.
