We are over rated

Not too sure about that.  Honestly, I think we should have been ranked to start the season.  There's a stupid bias against the Big East that doesn't exist against other leagues (I'm looking at you, ACC!) that have not been shown to be any better in recent memory.

Cincy spanked NC State.  UCD beat up on a bad BC team then lost to FIU who just lost yesterday to LA Lafayette.  Temple spanked Maryland who beat Miami who beat Ohio State.  Miami lost to K-State.  And Clemson, who appear to be competing with Virginia Tech as the class of the conference, is solid and beat Auburn, but Auburn is not who they were last season.

I'd like our chances against any team in the ACC.  I like our chances against most of the Big Ten.  I think we could hang with quite a bit of the SEC, though LSU and Bama would definitely be a problem.  I think we can hang with all of the Big 12 except Oklahoma.

Oklahoma, Alabama, and LSU are elite.  We'll find out about Wisconsin and Nebraska next week.

But I think we're about right.  Wisconsin's beat up on SD was about what our beatdown on FAMU was.  Our win against UTEP was more impressive than VT's win against Marshall and UTEP is a better opponent.

I think we're about where we should be.  We'll find out a lot on Thursday.  If we go into Pittsburgh and can get a dominant win then talk should definitely start about our ability to win the Big East and run through our schedule.  I know we've got the talent to beat everyone on our schedule.  It's going to come down to execution and taking care of the ball.

I just don't think we have done anything to warrant of a top15 ranking

Thursday will tell us a great deal... we have never won on thursday night... we will be on the road on a short week

We have dominated 2 1A teams and was crasy on a 1AA team.

Plat at a hostile environment against a good team and domintaed 3 quarters and WON.

We're easily a Top 15 team.

I need to see us win some conference games before I start buying into the rankings.

That's fair enough.  And I mostly agree, but at least we have some traction.  If we show up and perform like we can on Thursday then I think we'll move up again because some voters are holding off due to our history.

A solid win on the road on a Thursday night will convince a lot of people - fans, voters, and maybe even some players.

I'd just love to see 'em come out on a short weak and stomp Pitt into the ground.

One AP voter, David Just, STILL doesn't have USF in his top 25.  >:(

That would be big.  If we were going to have some special teams and defensive gaffes, I am glad they happened last night so that they players will know what they need to do on Thurs.

As for the rankings, I am glad we have some visibility.  I am just saying personally, I need to see more for sure.  The thing that tips the scale is that I think our new coach will keep the team focused this time around.  I am hoping we don't see any road PITT or RU disasters this time around.

According to Massey we are 15.

High ranking is 6 from the Roundtable.

A low of 38 from Doktor Entropy.

BCS Computers have us

Sagarin ELO-Chess 9

Anderson and hester - no ratings

Billingsley - 30

Wolfe Index - no ratings

Colleys Matrix - not yet released: week 3 rating- 10

Massey index - 15

That's very strange...

at 12:47 we were #17, but by 1:29 we jumped to #15.

I even refreshed the screen to ensure it had this weekend's date. I'm guessing there were less trhan 33 rankings at 12:47 but I don't remember.

"Saturday, September 24, 2011 (33 Rankings)"

At what point does this list stop changing and stay in place I wonder?

You might be mixing up things.

Massey puts together the comparison, but he also has his own set of rankings. One of them is "Massey BCS" which is one of the six official BCS computers.

We've talked about getting back to being the toughest, most violent people out there. Let's be the best version of ourselves and really get back to the culture of how we (USF) used to step across the line and play anybody. Let's hold on to the culture of when they were tough … and they (opponents) knew it was going to be long damn day for themselves.

"There is no inherent fear among this group of players. The fear of failing drove the program from day one - the fear of failing the coaches, the fan base, the university, each teammate, themselves. Now, as we head into the biggest game in our history at home on a national stage against the highest ranked team to step on OUR field, the players are taking an introspective look at themselves. Unfortunately, I don't know if they get it. They lack the fear."
