Martin Breunig, a coveted 6-foot-8, 215-pound forward from Germany, is making an official visit to USF today after getting his release from the Terrapins following the retirement of coach Gary Williams."He's so athletic. Extremely athletic, plays above the rim, good rebounder, runs the floor very, very well," said Brian Richert, his coach at St. John's Northwestern Military Academy in Wisconsin. "We used him as a wing, but he also posted up at times here. He's right on campus at South Florida right now."Breunig, rated as the nation's No. 26 power forward by Rivals.com, has already visited Washington, and Richert said he believes Breunig will decide between the two schools, though UCLA has also expressed interest in bringing him in for a visit. He's due to return to his native Germany to see his family later this month, and Richert said he would like to have a decision made before he goes home.By coincidence, Breunig was able to see USF play in person this past season -- SJNMA was in Providence for a tournament this spring when USF was in town to play the Friars. Richert said he would most likely line up as a small forward in college, though he could grow into being a power forward over time. He's being recruited to USF by assistant coach Eric Skeeters, as well as head coach Stan Heath. He arrived in Tampa for his official visit on Wednesday and is due to fly back to Wisconsin on Friday, Richert said.It wouldn't be the first time Maryland's loss would be USF's gain -- in 2008, Gilchrist left Maryland before he ever played a game for the Terrapins, and he was the Bulls' leading scorer as a junior this spring. USF has a scholarship available late in the recruiting cycle because senior point guard Anthony Crater was dismissed from the team last month for an unspecified violation of team rules.Richert, his coach, was born in the Tampa area, playing at Saint Leo in Pasco County and starting his coaching career at St. Pete Catholic High School. USF also has a player arriving this month who could sway Breunig toward the Bulls -- Richert coached incoming USF freshman Jordan Omogbehin in an all-star game in Washington, D.C., and had positive things to say about the imposing 7-foot-3 center."Size wise, he's Shaquille O'Neal. He takes up a lot of space," Richert said. "In a halfcourt game, you just want to pound the ball in to him. He's a physical player who will punish the rim."Posted by Greg Auman at 12:54:43 pm on June 02, 2011http://www.tampabay.com/blogs/bulls/content/usf-gets-visit-6-8-forward-released-terps

Hopefully recruiting picks up with the practice facility and a go getta like Roc on staff. Also have to I've been real disappointed in Coach Skeets. I know Hansen is a sorry asst because he has always been, but Skeeter hasn't do any better. I can't recall him enticing 1 decent player to come to USF. Both he and Hansen are on staff to be bulldog recruiters and instead both have failed miserably. In the working world if you can't do the task you were hired to do then you are fired and a replacement is brought in.

We certainly get in on the right guys but in the end we tend to miss out.

We certainly get in on the right guys but in the end we tend to miss out. A little more accurate way to put that would be "One thing I should've considered is Heath's ability to close here ". The following is a list of players Stan was able to "close" elsewhere:Olu Famutimi - 5 *'sAl Jefferson - 5 *'sRonnie Brewer - 4 *'sDarian Townes - 4 *'sSteven Hill - 4 *'sCharles Thomas - 4 *'sCyrus McGowan - 4 *'sPatrick Beverley - 4 *'sMichael washington - 4 *'sSonny Weems - 4 *'sAnd as far as Breunig goes, he's from Germany, currently living in Wisconsin ... I wouldn't be a bit surprised if the open air sauna that is Florida just wasn't his cup of tea.
