Today wasn't Veterans Day.

Wow. Just wow.

I can't believe you're really that ignorant. Or are you just trying to start some **** and get folks riled up?

Go read up on the meaning of the day, then throw yourself off the nearest tall building.

Welcome to my ignore list.

You should heed your own advice   "Go read up on the meaning of the day"

Memorial Day

Memorial Day occurs on the last Monday of May each year in honor of U.S. military personnel who have died during military service.  A day for this purpose first took place in Charleston after the Civil War in 1865 when freed slaves created a cemetery as a way to remember fallen Union soldiers.  It wasn’t until after World War I that the federal holiday honored all fallen military personnel for any war.

Shortly after on May 30th 1868, the holiday was designated Decoration Day after freed slaves returned to place flowers on the graves of the Union soldiers, though by 1866 fallen Confederate soldiers were also being recognized.  For many years afterward May 30th served as the official day for Decoration Day/Memorial Day until it was changed in 1968 to the third Monday of May.

The name Memorial Day began being used in 1882, however the holiday name wasn’t officially changed until 1967.  Because of its origination, many states in the South at first rejected Decoration Day and wouldn’t recognize it.  However, slowly the holiday was accepted by every state and remains so today.  It is tradition to mark the holiday by flying the national flag at half mast and numerous memorial ceremonies held throughout the U.S.  Another Memorial Day tradition since 1911 has been the Indianapolis 500 race.

From your link:  http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Memorial_Day

Memorial Day is a United States federal holiday observed on the last Monday of May (May 31 in 2010). Formerly known as Decoration Day, it commemorates U.S. soldiers who died while in the military service.[1]  First enacted to honor Union  soldiers of the American Civil War – it is celebrated near the day of reunification after the Civil War – it was extended after World War I to honor Americans who have died in all wars.

The federal holiday that honors living veterans is "Veterans Day".

Veterans Day - November 11th

"Veterans Day originally was held every November 11th, and though it typically falls on this day, officially the holiday is now observed on the weekday that falls closest to November 11th every year.  It was first incorporated as by President Wilson as Armistice Day in 1919.  Other countries today also still recognize November 11th as Armistice Day or Remembrance Day in honor of the Armistice treaty which ended WWI.

It was in 1938 that Armistice Day was enacted as an official American holiday.  But eventually after WWII, citizens felt that the veterans of all wars should be recognized, not just those of WWI.  So in 1954 Congress changed the name from Armistice Day to Veterans Day.  In America, the holiday now celebrates the approximate 2.9 million U.S. veterans with parades and ceremonies among other events."

my bro-in-law Mike who was on the Stark, due to medical reasons. Went to his retirement ceremony at Mayport. They had the Stark's bell there. He was a Maverick which means he started at the bottom and went into the officer's ranks.

That would make him a Mustang not a "Maverick.

Thanks, I made a mistake on that one. But have you been to any Memorial Day ceremonies? They honor the dead, and the living who attend are given special attention too.

For the genius among us, I said "Thanks Vets, have a Happy Memorial Day"

At no point did I infer that yesterday was Veterans Day.

It was/is my intention to thank Veterans, past, present, and future for the sacrifices made.

THANKS VETS, I HOPE EVERYONE HAD A HAPPY MEMORIAL DAY.

Still.
