Any school that has their tour guides say "Some may say we're the Harvard of the South, but we think of it as Harvard being the Florida of the North" doesn't deserve a flagship status for their head being so far up their 'you know what'. 

You've got to be kidding me!  Duke can say that and maybe UVA.  GaTech could say MIT of the south but UF?!?! 

They are what they are.  A football factory diploma mill state university in the South.  The fact that they're one of the better of these does not place them in the same conversation with the academic and research powerhouse universities in the country.

LOL - I have always loved this comparing North to South.  US News and World Report is a Northern mag so consider the source.  Everyone knows when a good old boy southerner opens his mouth with that southern drawl their IQ goes down 10 points - AND i WANT ALL you northern boys to keep believing that.  Them boys in Texas are soooooo dumb - that is why Texas is broke -  ahhhhh sorry they aren't - that is California with all those freaken mensa students that is dead ass broke and is now raising tuition by 100-200%.

Well like it or not UCF has one of the best in the "US" computer engineering schools - blows UF away.

The reason why California schools are all ranked so high is that the state dumps so much tax dollars on them. Florida will never be able to match that.

Florida has a pretty good medical school, probably the best in the state. FSU has the only new medical school started at a major university in 50 years. They also are known for producing educators. But in all these areas, there are schools just as good or better in the south, much less the nation or the world. Emery Law school is probably the best in the south. Vanderbilt and Duke, the best medical programs. Emery is up there too in medicine along with Wake Forrest. Duke best business. Georgia Tech best engineering. UT at Austin best public business in the country. Overall, the best school in the south is Duke.  Maybe we should make Duke the flagship school of Florida, lol. After all, Duke used to be in Florida.
