New USF coach Skip Holtz met with the assistants from Jim Leavitt's staff, and five full-time assistants -- including coordinators Mike Canales and Joe Tresey -- will not be retained.

Three other assistants -- offensive line coach Mike Simmonds, linebackers coach David Blackwell and special-teams coach John Hendrick -- will also not stay on as part of Holtz's staff.

Two assistants -- offensive line coach Larry Scott and defensive line coach Kevin Patrick, have been retained, while two others -- running backs coach Carl Franks and receivers coach Phil McGeoghan -- will stay on staff and be evaluated at a later date

Please use ths thread for confirmed assistant coaches information and discussion... and use the other one for speculation and rumors .... okay, Sam?

Meet USF’s New Defensive Coordinator

Posted By Scott Carter at Jan 18, 2010 at 09:38 AM

Updated Jan 18, 2010 at 10:11 AM

Former Marshall head coach Mark Snyder will be named USF’s defensive coordinator under Skip Holtz. An official annoucement is expected later today.

Snyder resigned after five seasons as head coach at his alma mater on Nov. 29 after posting a 22-37 record, including 6-6 in 2009.

Snyder was defensive coordinator at Ohio State prior to his stint as Marshall’s head coach, helping the Buckeyes win the 2002 national championship.

Snyder will replace Joe Tresey, who spent one season on former coach Jim Leavitt’s staff and was let go Sunday by Holtz.

Im happy with this.....Former Marshall Head Coach...We got two head coaches on the sidelines if nothing else. His record at Marshall was pretty bad though.

I think this is a really good choice; he's proven himself as a hell fo a Defensive Coordinator. We're headed in the right direction in my opinion.

Having a DC with a championship ring, should do great things for our future recruiting classes. Also, will keep our defense going strong as well.
