Not a good sign that FAU has to consider moving a home game to Tampa to boost their attendance numbers - they are already in a very bad situation regarding the new attendance requirements.  I think the attendance requirements should only apply to your "regular" home field.  This is a big out for teams to sell a "home" game to a big name opponent and play at their stadium to meet the requirments.  If this flies, I think you will see teams in trouble like the lower MAC play a "home" game against Ohio State in Columbus.

From the NCAA:

20.9.6.2 Football Scheduling Requirement. [i-A]

The institution shall schedule and play at least 60 percent of its football games against members of Division I-A. During the 2004-05 and 2005-06 seasons, the institution shall schedule and play at least four regular season home football games against members of Division I-A. Thereafter, the institution shall schedule and play at least five regular season home games against Division I-A opponents. For purposes of satisfying the scheduling requirement, a contest shall be considered a home contest if it is played in the stadium in which an institution conducts at least 50 percent of its home contests. In addition, an institution may use one home contest against a Division I-A member conducted at a neutral site to satisfy the home-game requirement.

AND

20.9.6.3 Football-Attendance Requirements. [i-A]

The institution annually shall average at least 15,000 in actual attendance for all home football games.

20.9.6.3.1 Counting Attendance.

For purposes of computing attendance figures, an individual may be counted if any one of the following conditions applies:

(a) Attendees are issued tickets that are collected upon admission to the game and retained;

(B) Attendees enter through and are counted by a turnstile that is monitored by a representative of the department of athletics who verifies in writing the accuracy of the count on a per-game basis; or

© Attendees enter through a gate at which a representative of the department of athletics counts them individually with a manual counter, and the representative provides a written statement verifying the accuracy of the count on a per-game basis.

FAU i believe has to draw 30,00 plus to their season finale with FIU to get to 15,000. This weekend they are playing a div II team and expect 8,000+

Thanks, Jim.

Interesting that someone thought of all this when writing the legislation.  For FAU, the FAMU game will not count as a home game or in the attendance figures because FAMU is 1AA.  This now sounds like a stupid move for FAU.
