USF Hosts UCF, B-CU

TAMPA, Fla. – After compiling a 9-2 record since April 13, the University of South Florida baseball team will take the field against in-state opponents UCF and Bethune-Cookman in midweek action on April 29 and 30. Both games will start at 7 p.m. at Red McEwen Field.

The Matchups

The USF Bulls and UCF Knights have split the first two meetings of the season, as USF knocked off then-ranked No. 25 UCF, 17-4 on April 1 in Orlando. A week later, the Knights evened the series with a 6-3 victory over the Bulls on April 8. After the April 29 battle, the teams will meet for the fourth and final time on May 6 in Tampa.

In a pair of games in Daytona Beach, USF is 1-1 against B-CU this season. The Bulls dropped the first game, 8-4, on March 5, but took the second game 7-6 on April 16. The April 2 game in Tampa was canceled due to the weather.

USF Bulls, 24-20

Last week the Bulls were 4-1 with two midweek victories over FAU and Stetson, added to a pair of wins against Villanova. USF outscored their opponents 56-30 this week, collecting 22 extra base hits, two of which were grand slams. The Bulls hit .346 as a team with five guys hitting above .400. The USF pitchers posted a 4.11 ERA and held opponents to a .237 batting average. USF has improved its overall batting average to .298 by collecting 452 hits, including 85 doubles, seven triples and 30 home runs this season. The Bulls have posted a .423 slugging percentage and a .401 on base clip in 44 games.

Freshmen Stephen Hunt (DH/P) and Ryan Lockwood (OF) led the team offensively last week, each collecting 12 hits and scoring 11 apiece. Hunt recorded a 1.238 slugging percentage from four doubles, two triples and a pair of home runs. Lockwood extended his hitting streak to 27 games, which is the longest stretch in the BIG EAST this season. Overall, Lockwood is batting .400, followed by junior Addison Maruszak at .360 and Hunt's .333 average. Lockwood leads the team with 35 RBI, two triples, 14 doubles, 43 runs, 72 hits and 12 stolen bases. Hunt, who has only played in 23 of the team's 44 games, is third on the team in RBI (32).

Need everyone out there on Tuesday night.  The UCF games are normally pretty vicious in the stands with the smack talk.  Should be fun.  Everybody get nice and liquored up for that game!

I wish this game was on a weekend but we'll be ready.  People, try to get out there tomorrow.  The boys need all the support we can offer.  Not only is this against our enemy to the east, but we're on a nice little roll lately.  We need to keep winning to ensure a spot in the tournament.

Nope. They officially changed their name this year to Bethune Cookman University.

Nope that is not a mistake. They are Bethune-Cookman University. Not Bethune Cookman College anymore.

Ryan Lockwood-  .400 Batting Average, currently has a 27 game hit streak, 43 Runs Scored and 35 Runs Batted In, team MVP to date

Addison Maruszak-  .360 batting average, 6 HRs and 28 RBIs, 43 Runs Scored

Stephen Hunt-  .333 Batting Average, Has 32 RBIs in 75 At Bats, Recently promoted to DH and shows good pop from the left side

Joey Angelberger-  .331, 6 HRs and 34 RBIs, 41 Runs Scored

Jon Koscso-  .295 batting average, 28 Runs Scored, 20 RBIs, One of Three Players to start each game of the season
