What is USF's Gun Policy?

Does anyone know the school's policy for carrying guns on campus?

I think after Virginia Tech and now Northern Illinois I would seriously consider a handgun and concealed weapons permit if I was still in school. 

I would love to hear one of these stories end with a student in class blasting away the gunman.  It would be a huge deterrent to these cowards that open fire on a room they know is unarmed.

Unless you are an officer of the law, no guns are allowed on campus.

There was an issue last year over the posession of having an airsoft gun.

It isn't USF's policy, it is state law.  There are certain areas in Florida you are not permitted to carry a concealed weapon - sporting events, schools (k-12 and colleges), and others.  USF cannot allow guns on their campus anymore than they could allow marijuana.

I think USF's policy is just like everywhere else in a government type building in the state of Florida.................I don't think guns are allowed.

The following is a list of places where you are restricted from carrying a weapon or firearm even if you have a license. Please note that this is a simplified list. The places marked by an asterisk (*) may have exceptions or additional restrictions. See Section 790.06 (12), Florida Statutes for a complete listing.

          o any place of nuisance as defined in s. 823.05

          o any police, sheriff, or highway patrol station

          o any detention facility, prison, or jail; any courthouse

          o any courtroom*

          o any polling place

          o any meeting of the governing body of a county, public school district, municipality, or special district

          o any meeting of the Legislature or a committee thereof

          o any school, college, or professional athletic event not related to firearms

          o any school administration building

          o any portion of an establishment licensed to dispense alcoholic beverages for consumption*

          o any elementary or secondary school facility

          o any area technical center

          o any college or university facility*

          o inside the passenger terminal and sterile area of any airport*

If you bring a gun to campus, you must store it at the police station. No weapons are allowed in the dorm halls.

Trust me, they dont give out conceal carry permits to just any college students.

Gotta be 21 and shoot once at the range, after a long class on the laws.

They also don't give drivers licenses to every 16 year old kid.  You have to take a written test about traffic laws and a proficiency test before you can get a license.  That doesn't keep people from speeding, running red lights, drinking and driving, etc.

How many people with concealed weapons permits do you think are expert marksmen and can keep themselves cool in the event of a shoot out?  I would imagine it's a small percentage.

I'm all for the right to bear arms to protect yourself and your home, but we don't need college campuses becoming the OK Corral,
