It obviously depends a ton on what the pollsters do...

We'll go up at least a spot or two I'd guess because we'll receive more votes in the human polls, even by beating Syracuse...

We may lose a little in the computer polls though...

we could drop... Our SOS got worse playing Cuse.... Auburn and UNC lost which will hurt on ranking in the computers...

Nah, we'll be back at #2 again tomorrow.  ;D Seriously, probably #26 or #27. Like Jim said, Wisconsin, Illinois and Cincy will leap-frog us...eliminating much movement even after the losses of a bunch of teams ahead of us.

Auburn getting trounced by UGA will not help USF computer rankings.

Not to sound sour, but who gives a crap about our BCS ranking?  BCS rankings only matter to those teams going to BCS bowls, which we obviously aroun't going to

The higher you finish, the higher you are next season (generally), and the less distance you have to go to get to the top.  Much better for the next season's preseason rankings (although not the only factor, of course) to be ranked #25 at the tail end of the season then to be ranked #50.

Yes, and this is important in the recruit wars.  If Leavitt and Co. can point to a top-25 ranking that we held when we finished out the season and a decent bowl win (hopefully) then we can increase the number of quality recruits we pick up and continue to raise the momentum of the program (which is already pretty massive, current disappointments aside).

The Coaches Poll is not helping us this week.

For those in the know, how do they figure the BCS number for teams that are not ranked in one (or both) of the polls?  Do they give them no credit for that at all?  Put them at an estimated position?

The computers have never been the problem. It's the voters...

Well, for started you have to define "ranked"...

1) Take the number of points in the coaches poll and divide by 1500.

2) Take the number of points in the Harris poll and divide by 2850.

3) For the computers, assign points to each place 25 for 1st place, 1 for 25th place.  Drop the highest and lowest, then add the four remaining ones together.  Then divide by 100.

Add the numbers you get from 1, 2, and 3 and then divide by 3.

So if a team gets one point in either poll, or has at least two 25th place votes from the computers (remember, 1 would be dropped as the "highest"), then it's possible to calculate their BCS average.  Last week 42 teams met this criteria.
