2007 Defense

Did USF just squander what could be one of the best defenses they may have for some time?

The players on USF defense this year may be one of the best we will see in some time to come.  It is rear that a college team has two shutdown CBs, a solid MLB, and a good DE all in one season.  Did USF just squander what could be one of the best defenses they may have for some time?

This is a very good defense an the team will take a step backwards on D next year IMO.

They may take a small step backwards, but it won't be such a significant dropoff.  Probably to about the level of play we had the last couple of years.

The defense did what it was supposed to do.  I put the blame on the offense.  Next year is another story.

200 plus yards to Ray Rice and that long haired dude from UConn, come on  they win as a team and lose the same way

Too bad they also don't play to their abilities for 60 minutes every game :(

Loosing J Julmiste from the line (for good) and C Robinson at LB/DE (for the season) took this defense from a potential top 5 ranking to a top 25 ranking.  We will definitely see a dropoff next year, but USF is a defense manufacturing machine.  Give Wally and the boys time and we'll have a better D than this in 1-2 seasons.

That is about 85% likely.  Wallly is a great coach and the recruiting base is getting better.

"There is no inherent fear among this group of players. The fear of failing drove the program from day one - the fear of failing the coaches, the fan base, the university, each teammate, themselves. Now, as we head into the biggest game in our history at home on a national stage against the highest ranked team to step on OUR field, the players are taking an introspective look at themselves. Unfortunately, I don't know if they get it. They lack the fear."
