Stop being cheap. You can buy a sweet HP from the HP website. It's cheaper than best buy and circuit city....free shipping and good upgrades.

I think you can still get better deals, at times, checking the ads in the paper. Best Buy had a pretty nice HP laptop on sale for $499 several weeks ago that we got. I haven't checked their website for a comparable but find it hard to believe it would be cheaper..

While we're on puter stuff here, is there a good website to got to check out all the crap I've got running at Start-Up? I've done something to add a bunch of Microsoft stuff that I've never seen before, along with some other junk...

The tech called today and came by my house. He replaced the motherboard and LCD. The thing is running like a champ. We also gave it a good dusting inside while he had it open.

That service plan was worth every penny.

Got that, MP, but what I need is a site that I can go to, enter the programs that are starting up and it tell me what the programs are and can I do without them starting up. I have a couple of sites but I entered a few I had in start up but came up empty. There must be better sites out there.

Your computer can run without any of them.  Uncheck anything that you don't recognize.  You'll want to leave your virus software running, and maybe a couple of other things.  Uncheck anything else and restart.

Chances are good that you won't notice any difference at all.  If you notice something missing that you want or need, just go back in and start re-checking boxes until you get the right program.  It may take some hit or miss, but most likely you won't have to do this more than once or twice.

I'll give it a shot ..... once I get the nerve up.  :-\

I did that and my computer didn't like the new settings.  Everytime I turned it on it would tell me that it's running on new settings and that I had to go back to them.  All I took off was AIM and Quicktime.  Hope it works for you, Trip B.

"There is no inherent fear among this group of players. The fear of failing drove the program from day one - the fear of failing the coaches, the fan base, the university, each teammate, themselves. Now, as we head into the biggest game in our history at home on a national stage against the highest ranked team to step on OUR field, the players are taking an introspective look at themselves. Unfortunately, I don't know if they get it. They lack the fear."
