Atlanta ATC: "Tower to Iran Air 711 -- You are cleared to land westbound on runway 9 R."

Iran Air: "Thank you Atlanta ATC. We are cleared to land on infidels' runway 9 R ...

Saudi Air: " ATLANTA ATC - ATLANTA ATC!"

Atlanta ATC: "Go ahead Saudi Air 911"

Saudi Air: "YOU HAVE CLEARED BOTH OUR AIRCRAFT FOR THE SAME RUNWAY GOING

             IN OPPOSITE DIRECTIONS.  WE ARE ON A COLLISION COURSE.  

             INSTRUCTIONS, PLEASE!"

Atlanta ATC:  "Well bless your hearts.  AND PRAISE JESUS!  Y'all be careful now and tell Allah "hey"

                    for us ... y'all hear?"

Maybe I'm reading a little too deep into it but runway numbers are given by the bearing the plane is flying when they land on it.  So runway 9r means the plane is flying on a heading of 090 or directly east and will land on the right runway.  In order for the planes to be on a collusion course that second jet needs to be cleared on runway 27L on a bearing that is directly west.
