40 time really doesn't matter. What football player EVER sprints in a straight line on the field? What matters is your speed when avoiding tackles and finding open aisles.

I agree that football is more than running but come on...what football players ever sprint in a straight line? Do you really need an answer for that? what does one do once they find that open aisle?

Carlton Mitchell is also running track this spring ... and Leavitt, didn't seem all to concerned for Mike Ford's time. As a matter of fact, he thought 4.66 was "pretty darn good" for his size and weight ...

Geez, give Ford a break.  he's only been working out with the fottball team for what?  Two months and change.  he'll need some time to get some of the rust off and get back in shape.

erskin's speed doesnt mean much if a stiff breeze can bring him down...

he needs to work on his ball carrying and getting some size.

otherwise he will just be good in the slot like ean but without the moves.

Inside source is telling me that Erskin actually ran a 4.20, and that Mitchell's time was closer to 4.35.

Take any 40 time that isn't time electronically with a grain of salt guys.  Lots of top level college players that supposedly run times like that get exposed at the combine when they are timed electronically rather than by hand.  Im not too worried about Ford he is far from in game shape and will improve on his speed before it actually matters.

Also take in to account the "field" or track they are timed on . . .

A players speed has as much to do running on the field as a lineman's bench press ... it's part of the package to make a complete player.
