I have heard several rumors this week concerning an OCS. Someone told me that USF bought the mall last week and that alot of people are being laid off so they can tear it down and begin construction.

Does anyone know anything about this? Heard these rumors?

I don't mean to start an OCS debate, just wanted any verification.

A sale like that would be public record.  So, if true (which I am skeptical), it will come out soon.

970 AM radio this morning said the mall was for sale.  Didn't say it was sold yet.

Out of the PRNewswire, 18hrs ago.

University Mall (Tampa, FL) - the Company has several prospective buyers

interested in the property and expects to have a formal sales contract

in place shortly.  Based upon current interest in the property, the

Company expects a sale of the asset at a significant gain during the

   first half of 2007.

Very long article with some financial figures included.

I don't think USF would "waste" money buying the mall when they can build the OCS on land that we already own.

USF's future expansion needs go well beyond building an OCS.  I wouldn't count the aquisition of the mall property out just yet.

If I'm not mistaken, funds for land aquisitions and  money for building football stadiums don't come from the same source

Aren't government and waste synonymous? ;)

USF could buy the land, build an OCS, as well as classrooms on the property, we already use the movie theatre for some classes, why not actually build some buildings over there for that use, just like uf has classrooms in the swamp.

Very good point.  If the 13 largest school in the country can't pay a bball coach 300-500K then they can't spend 100 million on a stadium.
