No coach at USF has had a winning conference record no matter what league he competed against.

I think once again it points at our school's commitment to the program.

I'll agree with you there- a change is now necessary.  The record is abysmal, regardless of the potential we've got to try a new approach and coach.

it might just be a doomed program.  Seth has now had VTech and Long Beach State ranked and never usf.  Its absurd how bad of a basketball program we have.  i nominate this as the most depressing thread ever.

Just being honest, no basketball program has ever had great amounts of consistent success in the state of Florida until UF hired Donovan.

Coming off record donations because of the football championship they were able to just throw millions into that program; which included a $10M basketball practice facility (with basketball only weight rooms and training rooms) that would rival some NBA complexes.

FSU has recently stepped up their funding finishing a very similar complex in 2003 and hired Hamilton. For now the results on the court haven't been the same.

Right now USF is a football school, football will receive the lions share of the funds. The Big East is a basketball conference. Syracuse, Cincinnati, UConn, and (to a lessor extent these days) Louisville will always put their money in the basketball program first.

It's just going to be very very tough to ever have a consistent contender in the Big East. I think this program should be able to get a few things together and compete for an NIT spot or occasional NCAA spot. However, the reality of the situation is what it is.

Joe makes a very very good point.

Although the gators had a good program with Lon Krueger.

Maybe Seth was right when he quoted the famous words of

"I don't know what to tell you, but kids in Floirda playing basketball just don't grow up dreaming of playing at South Florida."

So who knows.

I still think a young energetic coach could make some hay.

Mac has left a decent foundation with Howard and Boozeman.
